Has any one ever joined or ran a server where, when you joined you had to reset your controles because of some mod the server was running? I'm asking because i have joined such i server (person runn it hasn't had it up in years though) and i was wondering how to make such a server my self??... |

Dude, to make a mod server its simple.... Take a mod, take the files, extract them, then add them to your ui.vpp.

if only it where that easy. see the proplem is that i'v changed the placment order for the weapon that i'v changes. now when ever i host my server i am the only one who can pick up the weapons. every one can see the changes though. lasers big blue beams, capek cane, snake spit. maby i sould re add you to my msn???? |

The changes you made, everyone else need's to download too. Red Faction does not operate like other games these days where all maps and mods are downloaded upon joining a server.
The only thing that is shared via a server is the UI.vpp i think (Correct me if im wrong plz ).
Mods you place into your UI.vpp will be seen by other users on how you behave. You stick a fly mod in the UI, others will see you flying. |

why is every one ignoring the mane question (i already know how to make server side mods check out my "laser mod test server" some time)
what i want to know is how do i make host a server that forces anyone who joins to reset there controles (i beleave it was nokturnal who hosted such a server) because of a seeting on my end.
P.S. laser mod test server. up most of the time between 10:00 pm an 12:00 am east cost (thats the usa east cost) time. |

I don't think you want to do that. Thats Ignorant. People join the server so that they can play straight away. What are you going to achieve from reseting others control settings?
What happens if someone is using a USB game pad to play Red Faction, they join a random server "Lets just say it was yours" then all of a sudden, Bang, their controller stops working because you posses a mod that sets all the controls back to default, when this person has spent 1hr of their time configuring it.

Hnd that is exactly the way i felt when i joined such a server, however i know now that there was a reasion for it. if i run a mod that changes the default weapon placement setting (example the shoty if first then the fusion the the flamer ect. and all of the shot out strange things) then any one who joins my server can't use them. the i get called a cheater modder and what not. THIS IS NOT WHAT I WANT. i wanted to just cahnge thing around and make it Fun like seeing lasers and green ooz (the snake attack) and that thang the fish have and capeks cane. Now people do see these thing but thay just can't use them.
so if any one knows how to makea server side mod the will reset someones default RF setting upon joining please let me know.
P.S. my weird/strange server "laser mod test server" on all most ever night from 10:00 PM to 12:00 AM east coast (that USA east coast) time.... some time during the day, but that only if i'v got time to kill. |

You cant make a server side mod using all what you stated. If it involves editing stuff in your Weapons table, Texture changing and all other stuff, your going to have to require everyone to download the mod manually.
Sorry to burst your bubble but it just cannot be done unless your a wizz who could figure a way around these issues. |

The only way to reset controls is to *essencially* "hack" into someones PC and reset their players.cfg file... |

hmmm it would apeir as thoughs who use to run such server have sence gone long ago, how ever if i figured out how to get working lasers and what not to show up (i have a turtle on how ) i'm sure i can get peoples cfg. to reset, how ever it did take me two years to get lasers. soo it might be another two for a cfg reset ;( |

XMod did not reset controls, it just gave you different predefined controls in the game when you load it up. This is most likley done through a modified RF.exe, as XMod runs with a new .exe, not just a -mod command line... |

2) What would YOU achieve from it?
It sounds to me like you want to hack peoples computers just to reset their controls to pee them off, Am I correct? |

the answer is simple, i have changed the default order in the weapons'tbl in which the weapon are placed (example the 12mm handgun that was in first place and the HMG that was in 6th place have been switched) Know hopfully we all know what happens if we change or add anew weapon to the weapons.tbl and add it to are UI.vpp (if not.. you must delete the players.cfg or the changed / new weapon will not show up in the hud nore can you use it) there for i need to know how to make a mod that resets the players'cfg for people who join my server, to be able to use the changed weapons. |

to make your life easier, why don't you just create a mod for your sever that everyone needs to download and install. Then when people join, they have the settings you wish to have on.
Its not that difficult. |

server-side mod would be best.. Because then nobody has to download / install anything... and you can't join other servers while you are running mods.. So It's just alot of extra mucking around really.. Not the other way around. |
