Hey guys, i have managed to formally talk to V-Allender to see if he can get in touch with any of the volition/thq staff to request the RF source code for the RF community.

Lets just hope he will be a good boy and actually give to us what we've been waiting for years for.

Yeah well, if Volition decides to release RF source code, it Definetly would be some serious reason to party.

Anyhow even they would release RF source code they definetly bind it tighttly to their engine so that it can't just be copy&paste to other games.

And then if they release it, it would make most sense that dedicated team is gathered and they develop an improved rf.exe and fix things that we hope, and write some tools to ease mod testing etc.

If we look volition's history it would not be so suprising that they release original source code as they did for FS2.

Personally I know some things that I would aim to fix/improve if it comes to reality that RF source is indeed released.

Sounds great but what I would really hate to see is a dozen or more different RF spinoffs that aren't compatible with each other. One altered version that incorporates some of the fixes and new features we'd all like to see would be enough, otherwise you risk fragmenting the player community.

That is exactly what I was saying. Best situation would be that there is one dedicated team that works on new RF engine and updates in frequently and all mods would need to be compatible with it.

And what comes to this engine project, I know few oldschool demoscene fellows who would definetly be inspired to help, and linux working version would be done in NOTIME And I am anxious to participate and even invest some serious funds if needed.

So I really hope that Volition/THQ staff realizes that only way really to preserve RF is granting source code for community.
Also it would mean final hour for cheaters...

Congratulations Slitzerfest for getting thru to Mr. Allender.

I emailed Becker / Allender last week with that same question and six other questions regarding RF.

I wonder when I will hear back... lol

Do me a favour Slitz tell Allender to tell Becker to check his email!

a community fragmented RF sounds bad enough . .
but sorry guys, seems a more likely outcome is . . ads in RF3 (of course)

THQ Confirms New Red Faction
February 2, 2007.

In the investor conference call following the THQ financial results announced this morning, company execs discussed the publisher's plans for coming fiscal year, with CEO Brian Farrell revealing plans to release a new title in the company's Red Faction franchise, adding to original IP from the earlier acquired Stuntman series.

Developed by Volition, Red Faction was first released for the PlayStation 2 and PC in 2001, while a sequel followed for the PS2, Xbox, GameCube, and PC two years later.

Specifically, when asked by an analyst to list out the six major THQ-owned brands that the company would be concentrating on in the next year, Farrell commented: "As you mentioned, Saints Row, Stuntman, which will be released this year, Juiced, which is a sequel to the product we launched a couple years ago, Destroy All Humans, MX, and my favorite, Red Faction." No timeline or target platform for the franchise's continuation was revealed.

(oop . . & then there's the boring bit about ads & $5 million)

Well atleast this confirms that THQ has not fogotten RF, however when they are going to create this sequel is not confirmed, so it increases chances that they will release source code for community.

If RF III comes with ads, i would be willing to bet that it is the first thing that people try to hack.

I don't want to see a shick razor or a best buy ad, especially in a futuristic game ... but i wouldn't mind a nice photo of me ...

it would be another way RF III could become a disaster ...
