How much longer does everyone think RF is going to last?
The graphics are obselete by...allot.
The support is completely unsupported.
The games singleplayer can be beaten in about 4 hours.
The games multiplayer is unpopulated.
The cheaters are growning in number.
Everyone good is leaving.
There are a bazillion empty servers just wasting their owners money.
The max number of full servers I have seen at one given time is 3. And The max player limits are below 15.
How much longer do you think RF will go before it dies? Now please, keep the betting to a minimum.
The truth is, people move on, find better looking games, more supported games, more populated games. 
At this very moment, the only server that has more than 2 people...has 4 people, and that is Viper 3. |

It doesn't matter to me how many people play RF or not. Every weekend I and my LAN buddies gather round the table and play RF.
I run my server so that if any one wants to join us - they can. 
As far as costs are concerned - my server consumes 85 watts. 
It is true tho - cheaters and egomaniacs are killing RF. |

Red Faction has lost one of the 50 or so players left though. I have gotten tired of always finding cheaters in most of the servers. I am getting a new game, Counter Strike: Source. You know, get a game that will use some of the things my high end computer has to offer. Red Faction isn't exactly the most hardware demanding game. I gota Pentium 4 HT along with a Nvidea card, can't remember which, to use them.
Meh well goodnight, I'll just see what posts accumulate overnight when I get to school tomorrow. |

I still play and notice that most of the good people are gone, RF really wasn't ever all that popular in the gaming world. Most people I talk to have tried the ps2 version *<---SUCKS* and have never actually "played" the game. Most people I let try it don't like it because, like Halo 1, takes skill to play. This dicourages Halo 2 type players from liking it where it is hard to have a whole bunch of skill. The cheaters are a problem, so is the lack of mappers, but maby making mods for other games, UT2k4, will help bring some new players in. I think a Half-Life 2 total conversion mod would be cool too, using the source engine. |

i noticed the run maps are hardly played any more. as soon as the holidays came the server went empty. but back at school now, so see all the people come back 
modmaker91 what u mean its not a damanding game its far more demanding then UT2004. i only get 119 FPS tops in RF. some times on a cold day i can get 720 FPS on UT2004. and my bro only gets tops of 60 FPS and average of 30 FPS in RF on his athlon XP 2800+ 256Mb ram and 9200SE card.
I call that the most demanding game for its age of all time. |

If Volition had provided a link to the 1.3 patch or at least mentioned that there was one, then it would have been made known to many more players and that is the real problem. Too few know about it and so there aren't enough players to fill 1.3 servers. People get sick of that fast and go back to playing in the land of cheats.
I do agree the community is to blame in part, but really there are a lot of things that RF has going against it that the community can't do anything about.
As for a centralised RF site, there was one. The offical Volition Bulletin Board, but that was closed down when the community DID speak up as a whole and ask for more support to rid the game of cheats. Once that site was gone, trying to get everyone together again was just a pointless exercise. Those that did try started several petitions, none of which got the result they wanted.
To be fair, you can't expect a game company to maintain constant support for a product that is quite old now in software years.
We can easily point at other companies and say "they do", but that's just it. They are "other" companies. Not everyone has the $$$ to push into tech support.
As for me, I will play RF until the master server is gone, or until I find another FPS that gives the same great gameplay. It remains the best RF game I've tried. |

just played and found to my horror swiftgames and ozrf are down. and swiftgames is the only server i real play in. every night i play in swift. i dont realy play in ozrf but i see is a very popular server all ways full. swift games was all ways packed too untill a few weeks ago.
RF was going good untill 3 weeks ago. it seems that every 1 disapeared all at the same time. whats going on here |

Congratulations on dropping the nicotine habit mad_ferrit!
I have mentioned here at L4Y, in other threads, that consolidating our resources is the way to go. However I suspect that diverse personalities may prevent this from happening.
Servers should ask themselves;
Is there a uniqueness to my server? Or is it boring?
Is anyone playing here?
I have asked myself this same question with Dinner.
My answers;
Yes, my server is unique - it is a MAC!
It is not boring - all pick ups available with increased geo from fusion and charges!
Sometimes people do visit - it fills to capacity once a week. 14 players, my dsl can't handle more than that.
So in conclusion, I will make my difficult recommendation:
For everyone who runs a server, lets get together and open up a FREE forum. As an example of a free forum click on the link in my signature.
Each server can have it's own category to deal with rotations and rcon issues.
If we all did this, we could eliminate the scattered information and save a lot of people time and for some folks - money.
I am willing to shut down the Dinner Forum to consolidate with other people, is anyone else?
PS: I am unaware of a RF 1.3 for MACs. |

Don't worry, I'll still be playing Red Faction untill I get CS:Source. Mabye when I have CS:Source I'll pop into Have Fun or Viper 3. I would try other servers, but I always have a ping of 700 or more there. Viper 3 and Have Fun let me keep a decent ping of between 170-230. |

But I am concerned with a 700 ping - are you playing from the moon?
