Welcome!
Post 3 / 4

I have been playing red for a long time. It is slowly becoming more and more disappointing. Nobody plays anymore. It seems like there are more dedicated servers running than there are people who play. There must be some way we can attract more players. I mean sure the game is a little outdated but, it was way ahead of its time and still is. This game is so versatile. Sure Halo, unreal and other games are pretty cool but, I can't get away from RF.

Maybe we could invite more friends to play or something. Maybe I'm dreaming but there has to be someway we attract more players. I'm up for supporting any ideas. Maybe we could get some help from THQ or something. I could even produce some new game cd's.

But XEUS said that he doesn't want to leave the original game
I can understand that. I've been working and playing with that game for many...many years. I love the easy way to play this game, its easy to learn but hard to master (ppl say this to games like Pong or Tetris )
I havent played the game for a longer time (because I couldnt) but I must say that I got fed up with the game because of all the cheaters, and I think that is one big reason for the lack of players.

There are so many ways to cheat in the game, it is no fun for the beginners or those who don't play that often. Could someone tell me why 1.30 had no succes? I have no idea..
It seems like that too many players have mods (cheats) running and don't want to play without them. I can't think of an other reason.

oh yeah...and UT is as good as cheat free

To date I have introduced RF to the following players who liked it so much, they went and bought the game;

brittle pixel 'cs' - Saint Paul, Minnesota
ms. wanky - Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota
Doc Happy - Now serving in WESPAC, NAVY
Speedy - Now serving in Iraq, ARMY
Monty - Columbia Heights, Minnesota
binnski - Andover, Minnesota

I have thrown many LAN parties over the years and at least 40 other folks have tried it. It is the only way to get players into the game - word on the street and by actually playing it.
I have suffered in real life for the past couple years, now its your turn!

What we want is someone to like the game so much that they'll buy the company lol. Then we can be assured of an RF3 with all the goodies we want.

I have noticed a few new players about which is good. Although it is hard to tell sometimes. Some people use different names when playing.
Stu has about a zillion!

We do lose a few though. Pangol is gone it seems. Wasn't among us long.

Why? Because when players clicked update on the launcher or went to http://www.redfaction.com there isnt a 1.30 patch avalible to download, nor is anything said about it. The only way players know about it is when another player tells them. Another reason is, I don't think you can play with the whiner patch on 1.30, because heaven forbid we play with those guns.

LOL @ whiner patch.
Yeah good description.
True, getting the word around is extremely hard.
Maybe someone needs to run a dedicated server in 1.0 and 1.2 that advertises it in server messages. Just run 1 default map.
Call the servers "Red Faction News" or something like that.
The big problem is, I think there are far more modders than anyone is aware of. A little tweak here, a little tweak there. We only catch the obvious ones. Naturally nobody with an advantage wants to see it lost in 1.3.

Of course here at L4Y, there are no modders. We're all honest people with no hint of naughtiness in us lol.

Tweeking like, spread degrees, camera shake, pistol zoom, and sneaky mythers? I kinda supect something when in a big level like, Blasted Canyon, someone kills me with an AR on the other side of the level where it would normally take the PR or SR to be that accurate, so I think I see what you mean shisno.

Actually, hitting someone from across BC with an AR isn't hard <_< Just use a nice 3round burst

but that still takes atlease 2-6 bursts to do, I've has super armor and someone uses secondary fire, I could see them fire through the PR scope, and it kills me almost instantly.

Maybe if Red Faction 2 were to get a patch making it multiplayer (I know RF2 is nowhere near as fun as the original RF) people looking for newer games would recognize that there's an RF1 an look for it... just a little thing I thought of... :-D

BTW, I started playing this when I was 13 (I'm now 19), I put it down for a couple years in favor of other games (I also hit the RPG genre hard) but have rediscovered RF to still have probably the greatest multiplayer available. Great game THQ, maybe you shouldn't abandon this yet. :-)

yeah, well THQ isn't going to make a multiplayer patch and even if they did it would be a flop because of the inability to expand the game.

there are 3 thing that make a game a sucess ...

1. multiplayer.
2. Great gameplay and Good storyline up to date (for its time).
3. the ability to expand the game past its origional perimeters.

these three things will attract a large crowd of people which will create communities (like L4Y's Red Faction section) and also create die hard fans (like us ).

but game deveolpers get lazy and do not include all three of these things in their games which is why games like UT, Red Faction and UT2K4 such a sucess

Red Faction 2 was just a way to make a quick buck ...

Look at it like this ... they got us stung out on RF ... sold RF 2 to sucker money out of us ... and if the make an RF 3 i wouldn't be surprized if it was a 3rd trip to sucker money out of people who like RF.

Yeah Red Faction has probably had its day in terms of sequels.
RF2 didn't even follow the same story. Start afresh I say. Use some of the same ideas but with a lot of new stuff to. Maintain the same kind of game play. Increase flexibility within the editor. Forget mods and just make everything customisable within the map itself and in server controls. That way the community isn't split up with some playing mods and other not.
