i was thinking the countdown is useful for multiplayer because i can use it to let people know when the deathrun will begin ... (you know allow people time to spawn into the map).
but i was too lazy to try so i asked ... |

the checkpoint doors trick is preety simple, once you know it... if ninjas ok with it ill write a tutorial on it. |

That fullscreen bitmap even can become quite handy for some things.
I tryed to create a night vision-like screen with it, and it worked very good. (an animated green screen texture that flickers like a tv or something (or CounterStrike))
The problem is that when you press TAB to see the score, the night vision dissapears or the scores wont be shown.
It would be a nice idea if mappers used this event to announce stuff like a respawned item, ("The Fusion is back!") and everyone would see that. This won't work via the HUD message system because the dedicated server would crash. 
Or maybe mappers create a texture with their name on which appears for some seconds when you join the level.
Oh I forgot..
Kiliad it seems like you have discovered another secret feature of Red Faction. I couldn't believe it when I played the test map.
Only when I had the hmg in my inventory I got killed, even when I killed myself and picked the HMG on a different place the trigger knew that I had the HMG. I had no idea how that was done when I played the map until I found the trick in RED. I can't remember how often I must have used the Trigger events, maybe 1000 times. Why do I never ask to myself "what is that key name for?". lol
But I think it would make more sense to call it "TAG" or "SCRIPT TAG".
Does this mean that you can now create triggers that only work with CTF FLAGS attached to the player? JESUS I ALWAYS NEEDED THAT
The soccer map for example would then show the score on the big board.
If this works then you guys can create CTF maps with SCOREBOARDS (which will not work properly when you join late) |

The flags have script names so I suppose they will work like weapons do. All pickup items should.
As for the issue of joining late, Ninja came up with an interesting solution to that. I'm still playing around with the idea at the moment. |

That sounds cool.
I must have forgotten it....but can you create triggers that can only be used by the red or blue team? (I think there is a team value in the properties but I can't remeber if it ever worked)
Maybe you can put special items at the spawn positions. Red team will have others than the blue team which then can be used for team detection. |

couldnt you have a When_dead --->--- Coutdown_begin and off the When_dead also have a delay for however long the timer is?
i don't know how you would be able to get the flag trigger thing to work though ... what happens if you set the trigger there and smomebody takes the flag back and passes through that area even though they don't have their flag there? |

That is a possibility. The team flag in triggers doesn't seem to work, although I must test that further. But you can get the keycards working in MP. One team could use those and the other could have one of the other items that rarely gets used like riotshield.
Actually the keycard may only work with the use key... another thing to test.
There is also the Brainstem and Demo_K000 items that don't get used at all in MP. I haven't played with those yet. |

Interesting question. But I think the trigger does only work when you actually HAVE the item in your inventory slot.
Probably this will not work with flags at all, but these are located in the items.tbl and behave like an usual pickup item so I think it works.
With this technique you could also create doors that only open for the flag carrier or just for one team.
You could also create something funny...players who carry a HMG have no acces to the amplifier pickup, but others have Stuff like that.. |

Yes it does have possibilities.
Its a shame this info is coming out now instead of much earlier.
Still, if we really make use of it and produce some exciting maps then maybe it will stir up a bit moree enthusiasm for the game. |

Just use the Countdown_Begin event with a When_Dead event linked to it.. and thats all you will need for a starting countdown.

I would prefer to write a tutorial on it, because I think i know a bit more about it.. and Im not sure if you even know it.. Not Geo-Mod Checkpoints.. but actual brush movers just like in Deathrun2 except without my trick whenever someone joined after they were open, the doors would be forever closed.

Yes we have found some info, but maybe there is more info waiting to be found.. and even after we have found our next lot of info there will be more after that and so on.. Just think what we could acheive with this info now that we have it |

Here's another interesting little demo map.
Try to pick up the grenades. Makes sure you keep looking around the room.
I've only tested this in SP through the editor's F7/F8 mode. Worth invegistating futher. I know it works to some degree in MP. I think others have used it.

I couldnt work out what you were trying to do with the 2nd Demo map Kiliad
I started a server and noticed some grenades so i picked them up and nothing happened.. and I was looking around the room everywhere |

No no no.
I said I ran it in SP mode through the editor. You have to do it that way.
It uses the item teleport event. It partly works in MP but not the way I have it set up in that demo. |

Yes i know it, that would be the plants you use (only ninja will understand that statement, so dont try)
And, i was just saying that the when countdown ENDS event wont work in multi player, i know theres other ways to do it, just that paticular event wont work

Precisely what I wanted to test with you the other night, but in relation to the emitters and damage regions. 
Teleporting HMG would be great ... especially on the PTGN server ... goddamn noobs. |
