what do you think of it? im sure we can extract the statics from maps, and textures and music/sounds. we would have to map them... it may not look as good, but it will be very fun

ideas/comments/suggestions?

If this is an RF mod of UT and you started bringing UT models in then you'll soon exceed RED's face limit... bad idea really

The average face count on the playermodels is 3000 faces. Easy enough for RedFaction. But of course, UT2004 looks better in every way.
It can archive much bigger textures, up to 2048x2048 with no problem (no flickering)
Red Facton can't really handle textures over 256x256. Anything above has to be scaled up because RF isn't capable to generate mip maps that avoid the flickering with higher textures. Also the ps2 count grows very quickly by using 512s and above.

Many weapons can't be done as they're in UT2004. And what would be the point of this? I know its cool to work with RF but that isn't going to b succesful...you'd need some good people at least.

btw. I'm more thinking of a Red Faction mod on UT2004. How about that? But again, the scripting isn't easy. I should "hire" some Red Faction fans that know how to code from the UT community, perhaps there are some willing peepz.
But I think I would need the permission from THQ first.

UT'04 would be almost impossible to make into a mod for RF. If you really stuck on the idea why not shoot for something more reasonable, like the original UT? It's practically the same game, just with simpler maps (which can easily have more detail added while still being playable in RF) and low-end graphics. There'd still be some problems with weapons, but it's a much more achievable goal than UT'04.

Why don't you just make RF maps in UT2004? Thats much cooler.
Download the video tutorials from 3dbuzz (I can't say if they're helpful though.) and do your thing

Mad_Ferrit, you should do the same. I want to see something like "all around the world" on the Unreal2 engine

Yeah I agree... In fact I did start Dm-02 for UT2k4... but got too involved in Hammer... I started it for that too

Not opened UeD for ages!!! Maybe if I had a helpful Prop-modeller and skinner I'd make something like that for it Just have a lot more monuments and much better created too... Oh and some sick terrain

OMG!
just thinking about a RF mod for ut2k4 got me tons of ideas...
one, more detailed weapon/player models... and sick cluttar! sooo much more oprotunities in mapping.... and maps will look much better..

ONS and VCTF! vehicles in RF, finaly!

this is sounding great.
ill help out in any way i can ill start ripping some textures and modeling some statics. the .vfx files can be imported to max, but the rfboned ones cant... we'll have to remodel those... acually... we should remodel every static/model... more detailed models...

this will be awesome!

The first barrier is that the weapons of UT2004 aren't reloadable. And guess what, scripts of reloadable weapons are SOO complicated.
Coding in UT 234 and a half times harder than in Red Faction because you've got to do it all yourself.

Well, first the mod will need a remake of parker, and maybe some guns.
Just imagine how cool the weapons look like with the texture shaders.

I have created the Manga for UT2004 (1:1). It was not a problem at all. I'd say if you know what you're doing it is even easier and more comfortable than in RF. I have done a character - Moe, he was no problem as well. Goober, may become a very cool mod, well at the moment I'm not sure about the changes - RF isn't THAT different to UT2004. But powerups like slomotion (RF2) and all these "non-projectile" do a difference. (in Ut04 almost every projectile flys slow and can be seen, in RF they usually have fast velocities)

I think dodgeing should be cut out (but its such a cool feature...hmm), and I'm not sure about the double jump.

But well, got to go now, sorry. Will talk about that later. Perhaps you should start a topic in the UT04 forums.
But I cant promise if this is going to happen because UT04s script is tricky, and all I want is a total replication of RF, not only weapons, players and maps that only LOOK like RF but they dont work the same.
Also, we'd have to steal the whole material. I'm not sure if that's a good idea at all Why dont we just make something original. Well the question is, what? And is it going to b good.

dodging should be gone, yes the weapons and players would look AWESOME with shaders...
Parker, Hendrix and that tech guy can all use the same model, with differnt skins...
weapons, we dont really need reloads... its not that important...

ill read up on it, and see what i can do

in the meantime, im playing some UT2k4 ATM (minimized while im typing this ) so when im done, ill start modeling some high-poly RF models this is gonna be awesome!
