You're all wrong, the problem was that his computer was switching the task between the cores ... (except for Exostatic, he was right ... sort of)
When you have a dual core processor or a dual CPU motherboard your programs will be computed on whatever core is available. Red Faction was acting Jerky because you did not assign a core to that program alone. So the program was being pushed back and forth between the two cores.
|
Not so, as Red Faction ran perfectly, I could run, jump, shoot, play single player red faction... the ONLY thing that was jerky was the movement of other characters in multiplayer.
If it was as you suggested, everything would be jerky, not just other characters. |
oops i thought everything was jerky ... |

Quoting Ninja~ | You havent told us your internet connection yet.. playing on dialup in foreign server can get jerky... 500 ping is fairly bad but i dont know |
That'll be because that's not changed with the new processor. |

Yeah its only the other playe,r its like Lag but backwards. If you turn off the 98 Compatibility mode, try running a server and picking up a few weapons. |
Trying to find old players. Anyone about? Drop me a PM or reply to this thread:

Anyway, from tech sites they suggest you turn off hyper threading for older games such as RF. |

IMO, its much easier to run the program in 98 compatibility mode, rather than having to fiddle around, where would it even be? in the BIOS? |

i got same problem only characters are skipping and i got processor with hyper threading. When i run rf in compatibility mode it fix the problemwith characters. But then appears a new problem. I got graphic lags. Whole graphic lags there. I have got video option set on low and everything is turned off. |

Turn all your settings in red faction to the lowest. Turn all your Advanced Display Properties to the lowest settings.
If that does not work your computer might have to trash the hard drive for a few minutes in a large game. IF you start to get a lot of lag in the game let the computer just sit for 1-3 minutes while in the game and see if a majority of the lag is gone. IF those things do not work for you reply again in one of these topics.
Also is your computer a Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz or a Pentium d 2.8 Ghz
I only ask what processor because this problem might be a whole other issue. |

Quoting L!KW!D | I would like to point that red faction doesn't really have a big impact on the Hyperthreading since most of us use Pentium based systems which were probably purchased in the passed year or so and has been running like a charm. |
What were you all bored and decided to post a old thread.
L!KW!D about your statement, that I have found from personal experience that it does make a difference in both video performance and CPU performance. With Hyperthreading enabled, I get a higher CPU score, with it disabled, I get a lower score.
With Hyperthreading enabled, I can't play this map:
DM - MERRY CHRISTMAS.
With it disabled, I can play it. At first I thought it might be the drivers on my nVidia card. I tried all the ones I had one file from 28.32v all the way to 84.21v and no luck. I couldn't play the level. The player's view would seem to stick in one direction and the next thing I knew I was running towards another place. it was very hard to aim at other players, so I removed it from my multi folder. It wasn't until I read somewhere that they were having the same problem with another game that I tried disabling it. It fixed my problem. In case you are wondering. I've recently replace my working motherboard with another one and the problem still existed with it enabled. Now this problem might be isolate to me but my statements are based on my own personal experiences. I don't post anything unless I find it to be true or plausible. |
