EAX effects are atmosphere sound loops.. If your in a cave or something you can add some but i dont think its compatible with all PC's.
WHat are FX?
I assume you mean "Room FX" which is used for skyboxes, liquid rooms and ambient lights, plus a few extra goodies.. |

You can set the properties of an EAX effect to suit the environment that best matches the area you've put it in. They will have an effect only in that portalled area, so each portalled 'room' will need it's own one.
I persoanlly have never found them to be of much use, but your sound card must be capable of EAX. |

EAX is like the best. its the enviromental efect of sound, such as when u are walking down a drain pipe it echos in a sertan way. or you might notice in most default RF maps will metal walls echos like mad when you shoot the walls with the rail driver or some thing heavy. but most computers with built in sound cards dont work properly with EAX but sound blaster works the best. it sounds so realistic on a sound blaster with EAX enabled |

My onboard soundcard supports EAX so I use that, it really DOES make a difference. I try to include EAX in my newer maps. |

It doesn't work on my PC even though I have a EAX compatible sound card: NVIDIA(R) nForce(TM) Audio. At first, the "Enable EAX" function in the launcher appears grayed, but after replacing the old EAX 2 with EAX 3 Unified and viceversa the box is checkable, but it still doesn't work . Weird. |

Quoting acidburn | You could manually render some reverb on the main sounds of the game, it would take you awhile, but it would work....it wouldn't be as good though. Sony Sound Forge would be the best program to accomplish this.
acidburn. |
Sony did not make Sound Forge.. Sonic Foundry did. |

Are there any custom maps with EAX actors?
I have a sound card that supports EAX, but it doesnt seem to work with every game, even when it does it doesnt really work.
Yes soundblaster are the best cards for this. (they have patented EAX, EAX is their product)
I could never hear the difference with EAX in Red Faction so I never built my maps with EAX effects. Mappers can't do things that they can't test themselves
But what happens when you play a map with EAX sound that doesn't have any EAX actors in? Doesn't it use EAX at all, or does it use a standard EAX effect on the whole map?
I'm wondering why people keep asking what "EAX" stands for. I think the sound is one very important thing with PC games. |

REDFROG you are right, they are probably the best out there but now-a-days the built in sound card sound just as good. Unless you have a high priced sound computer sound system. I doubt you will ever noticed the difference. I have two cards that I didn't bother reinstalling after I upgraded the motherboards. What's the point, why do it when the inboard ones sound very good. They even support EAX sound, which I don't really care for any way.
Besides, using a built it card probably uses up less system resources.
There was a custom map that used the effects on it but I don't remember who made it or even the name of the level.
It might have been espear, but I am not really sure. |

A few of my custom maps started using EAX.
Only one I can think of, off the top of my head is DM-Tedium<< |

I just wanna clearify some things. First, using onboard chipsets require more system resources as the motherboard has to control those. And second, I believe Creative Labs is the company that developes EAX, not Soundblaster, though, Soundblaster does have amazing cards. |
