Quoting jileb | what are you all talking about? the source engine can probley kick this in the teeth, that is also not a 'in game' picture, it's actually from the intro movie if i'm not mistaken, but yes UT will look impressive and wont take a great card to power it,a 6600 could do the job easy giving it has 500Mhz Core/1000Mhz Memory with up to date pixle/shadow shaders |
That is very optimistic, I wish it was true.
My computer will not run the game at all, since it can barely support DX9 shaders and has no shader model 3.0 support at all.
Actually, the UEngine 3.0 is going to kick every tooth out of both D3Engine´s and Source´s mouths. D3Engine might have a chance, but Source doesn´t without any updates. |

Hmm.. Those are specs of a 6600GT, not a 6600.
The 6600 has 300MHz Core/500MHz Memory, wheras the 6600GT has 500MHz Core/900/1000MHz Memory.
And don't say that a 6600 will power it easily, you must think, the 6600 barely plays F.E.A.R on Medium, so why would you even say something like that about a game engine not even fully developed?!
Otherwise, my other vid card, GeForce 4 MX440 64MB would be able to power UT2k4 "easily". But, it doesn't It plays it, but at low frame rates. |

6600GT has 430Mhz core/900Mhz or 1000Mhz DDRIII depending on brands of the card. my computer does a average of 250- 350 FPS in UT2004 and a peak of 720 FPS |

CENSORED !!
All you peeps with l33t computers, SEND 'EM TO ME, gimme a break from crappy FPS. I gotta run Age of Empires 3 on lowest settings to run nicely, but I can have it on 1024x768 which is nice I suppose. Call of Duty 2 is like quite high settings but if I choose to run it on Direct X 9, LAGTOWN. I get about 7 FPS with DX9 selected, but I don't notice a difference between 7 and 9. |
Back in RF... getting back into the swing of things! |

Maybe you don´t know that UT2004 is mainly depending on CPU power. I can run it on max settings, 1024 x 768, no AA/AF, and I get at least 40 FPS in the biggest fights. I have a GeforceFX 5700 LE. |

Well, I guess compared to some they would be better. But in my eyes, what I currently have isn't quite good enough for me. |

LOL, i guess i do have too many computers in my house ... 3 desktops, 3 laptops, and a closet stuffed with PC parts. I really want to rebuild my main PC ... its getting a little old. I could spare one but im it really matter how bad you want a "new" PC? |

I have a P4 1.8Ghz, 512DDR (256x2) each running at 333Mhz,and sadly a ATI Radion 9200se Pro.Yet it can easly run UT2004 on the highest settings along with Half-Life2.Bjossi is right, cpu power is mainly needed for UT2004 also HL2 |

Consoles are more fun with friends and pick-up-and-play fun. If you have a lot of friends over, as I do, its a lot easier to pack up a console and tote it around, and have friends pick up alien controllers and still be alright at it and have a blast. Thats what consoles are for. As for XBox360, I find it very much weak. Its graphical prowess already has been succeeded by PC's. *Yawn* Consoles aren't meant to have the best graphics... if you believe that, then I have some land to sell you in Florida, alright? Consoles are purposely built to be fun, not to be a tech demo... which Microsoft is apparently trying to do as all it has been touting is graphics, not playability, and the absurd pricetag definetly proves its complete lack of understanding in the area. The only thing they got right is to get a head start on the competition, because by all rights they should get fried. The other two consoles are coming out later, thusly should me more powerful, usurping the one thing the 360 has going for it currently, despite the fact it is already usurped by PC (I've played CoD2 on 360, and honestly it looks about the same detail level as FarCry did a year ago turned up 3/4 of the way)... Talk about a dissapointment. |

Right and wrong, you see HL2 was built upon ATi as a foundation of the project, thus HL2 works better on ATi cards(it even says so on side of box!). UT2k4 is more geared towards Nvidia, as is Doom 3, F.E.A.R, etc. And unlike UT, the HL engine is not built merely around cpu power.
Point is, we all need a decent upgrade every now and then. And I would suggest an upgrade if you use my chart:
ATi:
9200 and below, need upgrade
Nvidia:
FX5500/6200 and below, need upgrade
My current 6600GT I am looking to upgrade! lol, I found a decent BFG GeForce 6800GT for only $289.
And you guys say the XBOX 360 is expensive..... It is the price of a good video card... lol
Anyway, the PS3 will be more expensive, so think about all that has been said about pricing. XBOX 360 has 2 different price tags for the 2 different packs. Well, PS3 will be priced at around $399-$499. |

cold days the frame rate is always double or more. 15- 25oC is cool for my compy. curent temp is 26oC
the cooler your CPU and GPU run the more FPS |

In unreal engine 3 the hi-res wireframe is not used in game, its only for the lighting calculations, which means they use medium poly model (5000+) and then the engine calculates the lighting using a 2000,000 poly model. It makes the model look amazing in game, without actually having to render a high poly model.
If you actually look at the ingame model of the vehicle you can clearly see that the tread has no physical depth. |

yeap thats right they are finding new ways of making graphics better and better without draging your computer down. which means more frame rate and more realistic graphics at the same time |
