RF caused an Integer Overflow in module RF.exe at 001b:00504b82.
Exception handler called in Red Faction Main Thread.
Error occurred at 12/15/2005 17:50:48.
D:125[HV]RF.exe, run by Administrator.
2 processor(s), type 586.
1535 MBytes physical memory.

This is from the error log. The server is 1.2 and patched with fixes... yet it crashses 5-10 a day. Can anyone offer some insight... need the server to run 24/7 without crashing

sounds like you have a bug thats interferring with RFs proformence... all i can say is, reload windows and reinstall RF, oh and dont download anything that you dont know what it is, and scan EVERYTHING with a anti-virus/spyware program you trust before opening it, even if its from someone you trust!

Curious, is your computer that has the server a duel core system?

Those spyware programs really get to annoy me whenever I play rf, like for example my norton antivirus has to always be CENSORED and shutdown rf just to make a few updates. same thing goes to spysweeper too, I hate spysweeper!

i would like to know that also... we paying this guy money to host our rf server... and it keeps crashing. So this means i have grounds to send abusive emails right? Its his computer's fault for crapping out

Well i doubt "Abusive E-Mails" will get you anywhere, you do however IMO have grounds to get your money back, or at least some of it, or some unpayed server up time.

Try logging with etherdetect and stop the logging right away after it crashes. That way you can look if some idiot is causing a buffer overflow. Those patches don't help a CENSORED , I can assure you ... I can crash all servers out there, and I bet there are some sad people with social problems out there that might be able too. (eg. people with the severe shortness on getting layed disease)

If that's not the case, I'm wondering what kind of proccessor and stuff like that the server has. Sometimes a stupid firewall or antivirus can cause the same problems.

What kind of Windows has this server running? (I strongly recommend 2003 and NOT XP, XP is the worst example of a crashme dummy, especially with those new ServicePacks installed)

Did you check if all files are on CHMOD 777/775? Sometimes that can cause a weird crash too ... And does it crash at a certain map maybe?

Can't help you further now ...

Windows XP just seems to be crashing with the features I ask for it, my demands just seem too big (like browsing over my OWN computer's maps is even too much to ask).

Especially for 24/7 servers, Windows XtraProblems just seems to be the last option for me.

I run Window XP™ Service pack 2(fully updated) on both my PCs and I've never had the server crashing problem or installing programs.
If his server keeps crashing and it happens randomly. It just might be somebody crashing it with the way you mentioned above or the other way, which I rather not say here because there is always some idiot that will read this thread and go out and try it. Just to see if it works.

server guy said it's not their machines... and yes its most likely the work of people jealous of the server

I'd say ... give etherdetect a shot.

If you send me the .CAP file, I might be able to even create an application against the attack.

BTW: I have a thousand ways to crash a server =/ Just to tell you how weak the RF Server is.

ill talk the this server guy about running the program... but i doubt he will. He gave me a hard time just for trying to update the rf.exe. From an e-mail he also admits that himself knows the flawed vunerabilites of the game, even created his own crashing methods for testing purposes. Its going to be time for a refund soon.

ditto to all that. The only time i start having problems with my pc is when i defrag and dont restart or mcafee decides to update, etc.

Think there is a important message to be read, when your pc tells you to restart you better restart.

Also on second note that CFG server crasher file (which i just so happen to have a copy of) just replaces a regular RF players cfg. Ive tested it on my own server and it indeed works. i also have the patch for fixing it as well. Dont remember who gave them to me (go figure) but ill be willing to give the patch ONLY to dedicated server owners to ensure protection of their servers (it patches the rf.exe). Not the server crash file however. We dont need a mass spread of this useless tool to destroy RF servers. Although ill have to dig through a ton of backup cd's to find the files...

However if i recall correctly the server crashing cfg does not give a critical error before shutting down the dedicated window. It just adruptly shuts down without warning. I remember when this was happening to the hooaah server so that cant really be the problem...

Hey D2k how about sending me that file. I have it somewhere but I can't remember where I placed it. I got too many files and they sometimes tend to abbreviate the file names.
I think I patched my server up but I don't recall if I have reformatted since that. It's been a long time since I had to reformat.
