I understand that. I mean I don't really see the game in shelfs any more. From a business stand point of view, if they dropped it altogether I would understand.

It is still on shelves in my home country, Poland that is. It costs about 5 euro. Centainly, I do hope that dropping the support want happen any time soon - it is really great to see such a big community of players after all those years. |

I think we are looking at this wrong maybe instead of asking for the company to host tracker instead ask the company to release rf copyright and open the source to the public to share and advertise freely .
That inturn will release THQ and parent company from all finacial responsibilities. |

I think they better keep the source to themselfs, or rather give it to individuals then just spreading it online. There are many people out there, just looking for a source code to modify it and call it their own game. I just hate it when that kind of CENSORED happens (yes, it also happened to MY CENSORED game engine).
And another:
Volition can't release the source OR give it away. They sold the game and copyrights to THQ (if I'm not mistaking), so THQ would be responsible for it. And I don't believe THQ would ever release it, as far as I'm concerned there's a person at THQ with dollar signs in his eyes and a sprinkle of paranoia. |

I hate it when folks take source and use it against the programmer. I generally don't release my source code, and the first time I did it, I was ripped off. Sure, the program was extremely simple and any idiot could have done it. If it wasn't for the fact that the hacked source was posted with the binary, I probably wouldn't have known. Since then, I've sort of "encrypted" my source with some spiffy hash-like code. If you modify it, you have to know the protocol used for the hash-like thing so you can modify the "hash" result. Sure, it means that I have to distribute a file with the source, but saves me worrying about source problems. They can't readily reverse-engineer it as the source kicks out an end result and the text file has only a huge <censored>number. If you want information on it, PM me, although its extremely simple how I do it (so simple I'm surprised no one has hacked past it yet).
You can rest assured, SD, that I'll never release your source, and any binaries released would be done with your permission (on an individual basis). |

Let's just end the source talk here. THQ/Volition will NOT release the source. Quit saying what if. Unless someone here was an original developer of Red Faction and "somehow" got their hands on it at THQ or Volition HQ, I don't think there is any other possible way.
And a petition or 1,000+ emails will not get them to release it......
Now back to RF Master Server talk, they said it would be up on December 1st. So let's wait and see what happens, and if it still isn't up, go rant about it with your face buried inside a pillow! |

I had an email from THQ UK this week, wednesday 23rd November, saying that the tracker should be back up "this week". Not sure if he meant this week ending Sat 26th or meant the coming week ending Sat 3rd Dec. These dates cover both the dates we have heard of, 24th November and the 1st December. Fingers crossed. |
