Greetings Gentle Forum Wanderers, 
In recent history I have made discoveries which have opened up the world of Red Faction to the Mac platform. For Mac RF to use sounds correctly: AIF IMA 4:1 Format, 22kHz sample rate or lower, at 16 bit
For the Mac, some custom levels crash and others had no sounds. I have proposed and claimed dibs on a project. To convert custom .wav into .aif; then repack .aif back into custom .vpp. So that the custom .vpp has both .wav and .aif.
I have done this with four maps to date and have stopped. The four maps run on both PC and Mac computers without crashing. 
There is a reputable Mac website that has taken interest in Red Faction. They are eager to post downloadable Mac friendly custom maps.
My question to the RF Community is this: May I add converted .aifs to custom .vpp's for our Mac RF brothers and sisters?

you got my premission to do this to any of my files, as long as you do not edit the .rfl in any way, therefore they will be playable with both PC and Mac  |

Oh golly!
There will be no touching of .rfl, that is the artist's private domain! One of my biggest concerns is continuity and compatability - I should have mentioned.  |

You are only allow to touch my levels if you wash your hands afterwards. Lord knows what I was doing when I created those levels.  |

why dont you just upload the sound converter that you have so people can do it theirself.. but anyway theres not alot of Mac users on l4y anyway (not saying anything bad about Mac, or Mac users. just saying that theres not alot) |

Fear Not! Augmented .aif .vpp's will be uploaded to a Mac oriented site. It's ok!
Sorry goober. The sound converter I use is on the Mac platform. It is called SoundApp PPC, version 2.7.3, 2000. I don't trust PCs with sound files. |

Sorry Sobe, I admit there are decent programs for the PC that do decent audio work like the industry standard ProTools. 
The website in particular is = http://www.macologist.org/
So far the only thing submitted is a map pack for panjaland - maps by w.r.e.c.k.s.
I added .aif to maps dm-microfaction 5, 6 and redux. Redux no longer crashes the Mac.
Besides this still could fall thru if the Macologist admins decide not to touch the pariah Red Faction. |

The other thing that can be done is that we (meaning I) can replace the file on this site with the Mac friendly version. Which also means, I would have to include them in the news post with a separate notation to indicate that if you have those levels and you don't own a Mac these is no need to re-download them. |

Hold off on re-uploading files NoClanFrank! Let us test the waters for the meanwhile and see how many Mac users jump into the sinking Red Faction boat with us. Now is a troublesome time with the game tracker down.
I am dangling a delicious carrot for Mac users to follow by allowing some Mac friendly maps to be posted at another site. The intended ultimate destination for those who follow the carrot is right here to levels4you!

Man you have a couple of Britney Pictures in your D drive and all of a sudden...
But I will hold on to the files for now. let's us hope that the tracker comes back online soon or all your work will be pointless. Well not pointless as you own a Mac and you have been missing out on a few details of certain levels that might or might not make the levels more enjoyable.
Also the new Lego mod from RED-FROG is done and it's a single player mod. I've played it and I rather enjoyed it but haven't completed it. I do however have one complaint. Why did the Dog have to die in the very beginning?

Naw, but seriously, I have noticed that a fair number of custom maps with soundtracks are using copyrighted songs by "professional" artists. It makes me sad - I refuse to convert .wav to .aif if the music is by Metallicduh, eminema, or whoever.
Mappers, for the sake of creativity, use songs that are underground or ones that you have done on your own. I implore you. If I hear one more speed metal riff I swear I will lose my mind. - ugh -  |
