If you want an RFU5, personally I think you'd be much better off making it an SP map pack, they will get played alot more.

MP with customs is hard, you have to find people with the map, and even then, the map could suck if only 3 people played.

An SP mappack would definately be played more.

After looking at my Previous maps the other day I have thought about 2 themes:

Cartoon/Cellshade - Just like my Cellshade offices but an actually decent map

Arena - Symetrical (or maybe not), Just the sort of level you get that feeling of "Im supposed to be hear fighting for my life", all Dark and Gritty.
Trying to find old players. Anyone about? Drop me a PM or reply to this thread:

RFU1 had 12 DM maps (no theme) - 50 MB downloaded 2323 times
RFU2 had 16 DM maps (movies) - 106 MB downloaded 1250 times
RFU3 had 9 CTF maps (events) - 46 MB downloaded 300 times
RFU4 had 17 DM maps (music) - 155 MB downloaded 350 times

RFU5 should be consider things such as:

.: Skills in RED
.: Number of mappers
.: Theme
.: Filesize

Without any restrictions it will end up an unprofessional project and at this stage of RF and Custom mapping it should really be done properly.

RFU2 was the best collection of maps IMO

The theme was "Landmarks".

RFU2 had maps crashing servers to desktop, so if RFU5 comes alive, make sure they are tested thoroughly.

Well I have said before that I appreciate all the hard work and dedications mappers put into maps and I enjoyed much of the RFU4 map pack and my clan, BAW(*** did play them and hosted them. I am not really being a pessimist here but more of a realist as I look at the number of servers and actual players these days even without Tracker being down... It would be truly outstanding if RFU5 could "jumpstart" the RF Community but I just don't see that happening

Pesonally I would love to see a Snow Theme based RFU5 but can't help but wonder if it is really worth the time and effort to please a few remaining dedicated RF players like me?

I thought RFU stood for Red Faction Unite, maybe I am wrong.
If I ever get to where I am going, will I know when I am there?

SPMC2K5?

I think the prob is that almost all the mappers or half of them like to make multiplayer maps.

That would be RFU4 my dear, not RFU2... RFU2 had a few maps (mine included) that were incompatible for Mac users, but none of the maps crashed back to the desktop.

Both Jurrasic Park, Alamo and Kill Bill crashed to desktop under heavy geo, just ask Troll. Besides, Spiderman had just one spawn point.

Mmm.. how about Micro maps for a theme..

It's a popular theme for levels and I already have one in the making...

ive been working on a few realistic maps based on Return To Castle Wolfenstien, they are comming along good, i think that a realistic map theme acually would bring out some "lost arts" of RED, and some of the best skills that mappers have. realistic maps can have everything... ice, metal, rock, fire, water, forest...etc... anything you can think of preety much can be in a realistic map.

Now i don't have the faintist clue how to map... unless it's something like AOE and other RTS map makers

But i do have a few idea's on a theme..

Cities/Towns - E.g. Paris, New York
Games - E.g. Black Mesa from HL
School/College - E.g. Your primary/secondary school (C'mon, how many times did you go to school, and think "Hey, this place would be great for a map".. or is it just me)

First we should decide the ammount of time given to the mappers.. I think a month is enough time.

Secondly the theme is not important in my opinion because we are good mappers and it shouldnt matter what we make.. its going to be good.

Deathmatch is deffinately favoured more than CTF as far as custom maps go.. So i say DM all the way!

Are people intrested in this and if so speak up..
