You clearly don't know the popularity of online games. Yes, "pwn" is a mis-type, of the word "own" (we've gone over this before). People use it nowadays because in our 24/7 world, can we ever escape in a better way than to artifically create (in our minds) the perfect world, one constructed around our relaxation time? It just so happens that in our escape, we allow ourselves the usage of certain mannerisms acquired through long-time playing. The longer you play, the easier it becomes to just act as though you're still playing in real life (which leads to the point: how much is too much? That one chinese guy killed someone over an artifact in a game).
The reason our mannerisms develop online the way they do is because no one cares. It is the hallmark of the Internet, to do as you please because in real life you can't. It is almost the ultimate escape (make it directly interactive with your neural synapses and you'll have people living there. You'll have 20 year olds in nursing homes just so they can play games until they die). The informality breeds the informality in the real world, as well. Tragically, thousands actually use gaming terms on their SATs (well, maybe not thousands, but I heard a few years ago, they had a very big problem with it). Note however there is an escape. It is not difficult to learn to separate formal writing and speech from informal. Actually, the way I'm writing right now is how I write almost anywhere except when I'm playing a game. I write pwn from time to time because it appeals to the ultra-gamers online. I also speak this way. I surprised my English teacher (Zaj, if you all remember my mentions of him). Two years ago, I could write a perfect speech, yet could not speak it. Now, I speak using "SAT words" and perfect grammar. It is amazing how people can change.
Anyway, I'll rate your maps on their merits, not because I don't like the many valid concepts of which you present. I'm a very impartial judge, I even voted against my best friends in various competitions where I had the pleasure of judging. Will that suffice for you?
I may have listed a few mappers, however I listed pretty much all that I know of. Granted, many of us are mappers, however I listed only the ones to which I own a large segment of my maps from. There was no intentional disrespect meant, except to say that of the best that I know of, Pred may quite be able to best them.
I'm nowhere near one of His gifts. I'm fairly acceptable as a mapper, and am very good at consulting, however I haven't the abilities to map anything worthy of mention. Except for my upcomming map pack, to which I plan to spend months reviewing and updating, I'm fairly mediocre.
I listed the reason for exhaulting default-texture mappers.
I never said any mapper is not worthy. I also support anyone who comes to me for help.
I promote Dells because they are a good brand. It's my opinion, and that's that.

This is a bad example. I suggest you could avoid internet lingo cause there is a big deal of persons here that don't like at all seeing things written in 1337 and other internet acronym.

There is indeed a bunch of talented mappers you seem to forget: Wizard, espear, WRECKS, swa madcat,techn9ne, sorrow, Lord benson, tico tores, Red Justice...and many more
The fact that they may have stopped mapping doesn't mean it's bad or that they don't deserve your attention (BTW, NCF has stopped mapping. You didn't know it.)

Anyway if you can't download anything over 1 MB, you're unlikely to find many custom textures inside.
The mappers you pointed at, as your model (ferrit, frank, RedFrog) do use custom textures (in all their maps ) and all their maps are over 1 MB. I don't know if everybody can use custom textures but the best mappers certainly do and they had to spend a long time searching for or even making them before. I, with my mediocre talent, can surely use them but i can't be arsed searching them and i'm strictly unable to do anything correct with photoshop, PaintShopPro or gimp. If i was to select the map i download on such strict criteria as yours, i would rather say "nothing under 1 Mb".

You guys are off-topic, as usual. 
Any way, there is a good mapper that uses mostly default textures, on fine example would be this new level just released it only contains one custome texture(dgrey005.tga):

But if you want an example of what custom textures can do for a map then take a look at this level, you will notice that they file size is massive but trust me when I say it is well worth the time it will take to download this level:

Aye, 'tis only a fool who fights the futile battle. I'll never hear the end of the pwn-pown battle and will never escape the insults on my honor just because I list strict criteria to a map, yet no one follows it.
As everyone has said: I asked for SP maps, not MP. Granted MP maps usually own, but when you're alone and your internet is too slow, you need a good SP map.
To those who called me immature (there was someone on the second page, however my memory is not great, and it would not do well to say a name without fact), aren't we all technically children here? The typical age of maturity is roughly 21 or so, however I'd rate it myself at 28. I know of many 25 year-olds who act like 15 year olds. So, if I'm 17, shouldn't I be allowed the occasional bursts of emotion? We are only human, not machine. Until the day comes when machines fully replace us (then potentially kill us), we should be allowed to make mistakes. Furthermore, I support Pred in all his endevours, not only because of hte fact that in my opinion he's good, but also because he is a valued friend. You can't really call yourselves human if you can't foresee the difficulties you bring others. This is why mature people are called those who know what their actions will bring about what sort of consequences, and know how another person would feel in a situation they themselves have not yet been in.
Regarding the embolded "opinion", yes it is my opinion. It was not a state of fact. A state of fact would include proof. Why else did I request maps? Because I know my opinion is just that. If we're not allowed to have opinions or emotions or even compassion for one another, what sort of place is this? If it wasn't for the fact that L4Y completely owns all other gaming sites that I know of (remember, this statement is an opinion), I'd seriously think about leaving, based solely on what happened in this thread alone. There are some serious problems with your social-interaction "algrorithms" (for lack of a better word. However, Neural Linguistic Programming, the science of re-programming human minds via re-training of perception is technially a form of programming, and they do sometimes refer to brain functions as driven by algorithms). Inhospitality is the worst thing you could possibly do anywhere. Shame.
I'd feel differently if you'd have dropped it after this. I actually considered renouncing this argument last night, however my Internet died (almost always does, at around midnight to 5 in the morning). Thus, we'll just see who really went too far here. I admitted I was wrong, and it isn't that difficult to just drop the subject and move on. However, we've allowed this to become part of some psychotic "we hate all people who's opinions differ from ours" quest. Granted, perhaps I wasn't completely clear when I made such statements, and perhaps the over-abundance of emotional energy in my pride in Pred's skills may have made me forget to clarify it, however it wasn't entirely impossible to figure out that, when people have opinions and are proud of someone, they're liable to ignore all others greater than the person they are proud of. It is similar to mothers, and their eternal love for the firstborn, despite the fact that the others are more successful than the first could ever be. I noted Pred's skill prior to that of others, and this occured.
I suppose now you'll either:
flog me any time I post
ban me from the forum
ban me from the site
insult me
any other form of punishment for a mistake just because I called those who berated me facistic and inhuman.
However, we all have a right to an opinion, it is this small thing that is universally accepted, called the right to freedom of speech. Even in communistic countries, people are allowed to be free in their speech once they enter the digital realm. If their government lays a hand on them, Amnesty International will come to their aide (or the aide to their survivors). Then, after the report is filed, complete with false oil wells being found in the country, GW will destroy that country and we'll all live better off (that was a joke, however it does point to the fact that international human rights are no joke and that we are all meant to be free, and that communism is a failing system that will never survive so long as people exist). Further, we are all entitled to our failures and mistakes, and we are all emotionally-driven creatures. The behaviour noted here says otherwise.
I think that's all, since I think the last paragraph was a repeat of concepts covered earlier. Do as you will, however what point would there be in banning me? As usual, the elitists win because they hold the power. The days are comming when the oppressed shall rise and show their true power. You cannot stop the Red Faction! (that, again was a joke, however it does point that there are elitists in this world and the weak and oppressed shall overcome this. A minority cannot suppress the majority. The British learned this repeatedly for 350 years, and again they shall (isn't Garner British? If he banned me, he'd prove me right)). |
