Well, now since I got your attention, my computer died today .... . Ive had computers die on me before but NEVER LIKE THIS *cues the DUM DUM DUM sound effect* .
there i was, walking over to my computer and I started the computer by tapping the keyboard and as i was walking away from it I heard the the loudest sound i have EVER HEARD from a computer (not including external speakers ) and as i turned around i saw the lights on the computer fading and i immeadiatly smelled ... burnt electronics ... .
I hope it was just the power supply but ... i hope im that lucky
(I posted this so all you guys can sit at home and laugh at me . I thought you all would find this funny. )

hahahahahahahahaha ... k now thats out of the way was that sound like a large beep type sound because with some motherboards if the ram or cpu is not properly inserted then the motherboard lets you know with a large beep (not good at 3 in the morning when you are trying to put a PC together ... it wakes you up at least .) and if it was the cpu or ram not inserted properly then it may have shortcircuited the M/B hence the burnt electronics smell.
and D2K thats why you should back everything up every now and again
Nah seafood, it wasn't that ... this computers been working for a long time ... just suddenly stopped working but ive got 3 other computers so im not so ticked , it would have been cool at the time ... if it was not mine.
It WAS LOUD, it sounded like a ruler hitting a table 3-4 times in a row (a loud popping sound). It sure made me jump.
Im gonna try switchin power supplies on it ... the one i had in there was a cool one too ... had blue LED's on it.
that does sound bad, HAHA. BTW i also lost a CPU from overclocking it ... a AMD athlon ... they just make it soo hard to do that . but i got 2 others working for my 2 CPU computer so ... .
My computers are usually pretty stable ... except for power supplies.
I don't get it, you buy a 50$ power supply and it lasts for a few months while power supplies you buy for 10$ last forever ... and it seems the cool looking ones always die first .
well, im gonna try swapping it with some supply i have in the closet but for now im too distracted by PC.
Meh ... it can wait.
Edit: well, i fixed it, it was the power supply (im lucky )incase you're curious on what power supply broke on me you can find it here.
i took the fans off of it so i can reuse them ... the power supply board looks like it was soilderd by a 4 year old. Figures
That loud smacking sound is most likely a capacitor that blew up. Look around the motherboard and other parts for a burn capacitor. If you are not sure what a capacitor is, they look like little cylinders (maybe like tiny batteries). They blow up frequently and are very easy to spot by eye. If you dont see one on the mobo then maybe look at the power supply.
NOTHING BEATS CARS WITH WHEELIE BARS!!!! WEll... maybe an ice cold beer!
