can a staff member get rid of a couple of the posts this guy made so we can all answer int he same thread
also on the contrary you can play on the same computer that is hosting a server via server assist..now if only the thread that was started, that explained how to do it..
ok it looks like the thread got removed in the switch over.. but dvl iac can explain how to do it again..
Hmm, I haven't run RFSA so I don't know what it benefits but generally you should be able to run listen server on your own machine while you play and if you want alltime server then use dedicated server.
one problem is that u need 2 computers coz u can't play on the one with RFSA
to play on your own dedicated server made in server assist is easy . just in server assist where it says "force port" put in a number like 7756
and then start the rf launcher and go to "setup" then "Network" and where it says "force Local Port" put in a number different then the one you put in server assist... something like 7755.
then click "apply" then "ok" then start RF and you should be able to see your server and others.
I've tried all of that though IAC!?!? It never worked for me though I can run a dedicated... or a nondedicated... but never both! And yes... I did open ports and force them! I even tried spreading them further apart... more than one port (ie. 7755 for normal...and 7759 for dedicated... etc)
HELP!
Strange... That way always works for me. When I'm playing RF with my friends and I'm the one that has to make the server, I always make it a dedicated server using Server Assist then join it. That way if RF decides to randomly crash, everyone doesn't get booted and I don't have to start the server over again. Are you behind a router?
i've tried to download server assist but it wont open.
it tells me to open with different program, i also download the win 32 extractor but it doesnt open it either plz can some help me with this aswell. thank

As IAC said you CAN make a dedi and run RF multi on that SAME pc, as well as play on your own server.
Just force a port such as 7756(one I force), and go into RF Launcher setup and force local port 7755.

You're supposed to uncompress it with winrar (can't remember if it wasn't a .exe file thou. )
Then install it and it runs by itself. I think you'll need Visual Basic 6 sp5 Runtime Module to have it working.

The only way I find to do it is he same as IAC.Change the port of the server then change your port before playing the game and you should be able to see and play in your own server.
