Man! you guys are really trying to shoot me down on the mini ITX idea. Fun-haters
I would rather have it look and sound professional or not have it at all, i know people who cut corners and it makes it look, well, bad. One of my friends put a CB radio and PA system in his truck and he has wires EVERYWHERE, that bothers me.
If i were to get a laptop and do this, it would look kinda bad and besides wheres the fun in that! Sounds to "pre-assembled" to me.
I've got a car thats built by mopar, meaning i have more room for putting my computer into the dash than normal space, about 20CM X 20CM X 8CM, which is more than enough for the basics. |

Asaultman67, please check out the store at http://www.mini-itx.com and check the prices You can find all you need there. Next you just need a project to use these boards with Maybe a Windows XP box computer? lol |

I ain't trying to shut you down on anything. But remember, everything that Pimp My Ride puts in has a head unit. If they put in an ITX board and computer, (which is actually not as common as people seem to think)... the ITX board has an audio out that is suitable purposes for a stereo... it doesn't need to be all amped up from there. Well, it does for the speakers, but it doesn't need a headphone amp.
And just so you know, I don't cut corners. I and my friends completely built my stereo. We pulled out essentially a stock stereo, which was actually two seperate entities, a radio near the wheel and a tape deck near the center of the dash... we then pulled all the old wiring and wired everything again (without a wiring diagram.... ) I then installed new front speakers in my free time. Then we put in an amp and subs into the back. All the wires run completely underneath the trim so they are not visible. All the wires in the dash are hidden, and loomed so they aren't obvious. I installed a dead (remote) switch, I drilled a hole in an empty spot in the dash and installed a toggle, and then I mounted a level (amp) control knob underneath it. No wires. I ended up pulling the entire dash to do it as I wanted, and most of the trim on the passenger side (where the wires run) but it looks clean. Wires are only visible where they come up over the top of the back seat to meet the amp. And yes, I built my own enclosure and carpeted it... it's better that way because you get the exact specs you want, for example, my box is relatively small and not ported... P5's are recommended to be in a sealed enclosure, and I opted for a smaller box so they would be more accurate. It's not near as loud as it could be, but when it's still hitting around 130 db within the cab, it's perfectly fine with me. |

Laptops are easier to deal with than building a custom machine.
Power supplies might be easier with a mini-ITX though. |

I know they build power supplies for Mini ITX that are 12v DC to your voltage requirements on your board ... you just plug it in and wire it up. |
