This is my first thread I believe. 
I´m a huge fan of Red Faction, the game is so well made, the music is so much like in movies in my oppinion, makes the experience never get old.
I´ve noticed some bugs while I play Red Faction single player.
I´d play multiplayer, but I can´t because all connections in my country have traffic limitation, makes it too expensive to play online.
Here it goes.
1) When firing Heavy Machine Gun, you or an enemy, I notice that sounds start to dissapear. This might be sound card related, it happens to me, I´m using SoundBlaster Live! 5.1.
2) When characters talk in cutscenes, the voice comes alittle later after the talking starts. This might be because of age of the game or computer related.
3) When you meet Hendrix inside the merc base late in the game, I can see that his glasses are missing, I can see through his "eyes" and into the object/wall behind him.
4) This is a very minor one, when firing the flamethrower, if you hold down the mousebutton, you´ll hear the empty gun sound looping before reloading the next fuel canister.
5a) This bug is kind of useful. When an enemy is running at your location, save the game and load. You´ll notice that the enemy has stopped, show yourself and the enemy will recognize you again.
5b) This bug ruins the Capek and Masako fights, save the game when they´re not in eyesight, and you can shoot at their feet without them even noticing, taking out the nanotech shield easily.
5c) In the Masako fight, take out the shield and hide, when she´s close but can´t see you, save the game, load, and kill her with the Rail Driver. Of course it´s optional to cheat like this, but one can´t resist when a fight becomes annoying. 
6) This is probably not possible to fix, but if you don´r choose the labcoat disguise in Capek´s labs, you´ll be dressed in it anyway when you meet Capek.
7) Probably not a bug, but funny. Walk up to the miner that´s supposed to give you the office clothing, when he starts talking to you, put a remote charge on him, he´ll stand still but still scream. You´ll receive the pistol and you run up the stairs, you´ll hear him quite well, even after you run up the big stairs in front of the door after loading 1st floor admin level. 
8) Maybe it´s intentional, but sometimes when a guard/merc you kill, the corpse dissapears, fades out slowly.
9) When you´re following Gryphon in the sand tunnels, you´ll get to a big room with alot of crates on huge shelves, there´s a Shotgun guard in there plus a Sub-Machinegun guard in the control room. It has happened to me few times, but when you go up with the lift in that room, the lift that two pistol guards came down with it, you can somehow jump out of the level. Like "ghostwalking".
10) On 3rd floor of admin, the floor with Gryphon, he´s unkillable. I don´t know when it happens. Probably after Gryphon opens the small metal door with the suit and alot of ammo inside.
11) When you get hit or reload a weapon, and you load a save while the screen is red or while the weapon is beeing reloaded, you´ll see the red screen/weapon reloading after the loading is complete, but it doesn´t affect health loss and the weapon doesn´t actually reload, just the animation.
That´s all I can think of, many of them have probably been noted already. I´m sorry if that´s the case. |

I get a lot of those same "errors", but I find them hilarious.
The cutscene problem was because the program's execution is slow in these parts. Notice on low-end systems they'll about die.
Well, the Hendrix problem is a scripting error most likely.
The flamethrower thing is annoying, and probably happens because of a scripting error (remember, they were time-pressed to ship RF out on time, just read the RED help file, they mention "stuff to be released later", as in "we are out of time, but we might make the files available via an update" (they never did).
The cutscene with the lab coat is because they assumed you'd use it, because Hendrix told you to. Also, think how hard it would be to write another movie just based off one setting change (they wrote the movies via C++, not an actual movie creator, so each frame was hand-coded, taking days just to get a minute of movie in, have some respect).
The corpse fading quickly was designed to help out low-end systems, so they have less to "remember".
A few things I remember:
In 3rd floor admin, there is a door above the exit door (between the elevator and the exit door, it is on the "second" floor of the level), containing some AI. Perhaps they were meant to do something, but they never do (I plan to extract the level and take a closer look at it some time soon, so just IM me to prod me into remembering to do it, or use the VPViewer32 from Descent Manager).
There are a lot of pools and mini-lakes in the first level, as well as tunnels, that go nowhere. Logically, if they were trying to save resources for low-ends, they'd leave in only the essentials.
You can't create colo(u)red lights in RED (at least I can't, so please help, lol).
Logically, there would be no way to link the trash disposal unit to the Med Labs, as the sulfur created by the fire would suffocate everyone. Also, there'd be smoke, heat, etc.
Ultor wouldn't forget about the Ultor Personnel Suppression Combot, and if they did intentionally place it in the trash disposal unit, why have all that stuff around it? There are rooms that would have no purpose there. Also, there is no trash chute, so people would have to unload the garbage, and with the UPSC, they'd be killed. Illogical.
There are far more "problems", however they are probably just some stuff that the developers forgot, couldn't care less about, didn't have time to fix, or kept in there intentionally for fun. |

lol I highly doubt they'd use c++ to make the cutscenes when they can just link a few events and cutscene cameras together in the editor and have the cutscene done in like 15-30 min all the movies are done this way except for the intro movie and the end movie... those were probably made in an animation program like 3ds max. Or they might have been done the event way too but for some reason they decided to just record the vids insted of including the level's the vids were made on with the game... |

Notice how in RED in the objects list there are entries for Mars, Mars2, Marsblob and EDF Ship that do not show up when chosen (placing a 'Mars' object will actually screw up RED, try it ). These could meain that they made the cutscenes and filmed them or that they tried making levels with RED that were the start and ending video and found it would screw up pc's too much . . . either way.
they definitely didn't use C++ for the in-game cutscenes because you can see all the 'play animation' events for the cutscenes such as parker meeting capek, its probably just that they couldn't be bothered making the whole cutscene animations over again for the normal parker. |

Don't worry thats normal for Red Faction. It happens if you play for a long time sraight. Just quit the game, give it a rest and play some more. Works for me every time |

Aren´t cutscenes made with cameras and event markers like in Serious Editor for Serious Sam? If you didn´t take the labcoat, you´d still be in the enviro suit so the cutscene cameras would see the suit, not the lab coat.
Or does the game not "dress" you into the lab coat? Is it just used to remove your weapons and armor but you´re still using the enviro suit skin for Parker?
This is hard for me to discuss since I don´t know anything about RED.
Has anyone used the AI error, save the game when Capek/Masako aren´t in eyesight, load and take out their nanotech shield easily by shooting at their feet? |

The game doesn't actually "dress" you in the coat, it just posts it in the level (as a graphic), then has the "strip player weapon" event, and the "undercover" event (and probably the "give item to player" event to give you the pistol). Thus, it would be easier for them to put you in the lab coat for the cutscene (since you never actually donned it).
I never noticed that "Mars", etc stuff (well, I did notice the troop transport object, but it was too big for my level, so I took it out), so I couldn't really have known, could I? Also, my RED doesn't crash when I put in big things like that (the fun of a super-computer (compared to RF's minimum specs). I do have one cutscene object in my one map (still working on it, so if you want it, don't steal it or expect it to make sense, its supposed to be part of a pack), the little computer console (from when Parker loads the information in the satellite command center), the one that flashes a monitor and progress screen, and it does work without crashing anything.
Anyway, if you'd like a small look at the level (which, IMHO, has no real sense made out of it, and needs heavy editing just to fit into my pack series (originally it was a separate level, however the level had too much stuff in it and crashed my friend's computer, so I cut out some stuff, then realized it'd fit good into my pack), however, is still good for heavy training (try the level without using the weapons in the rack at the beginning of the game)), just PM me. |

I think i have discoverd most bugs in RF single
1=If you use camera 2 and the all weapons and ammo cheat in the beginning of the game and use whatever gun and you kill all the guards one miner(the one that seems to be sleeping on the guard) seems to be invincebel.Try shooting him with the rail gun he wont die.
2=After driving the jeep and stopping it at the pool where the mutated fish is(you know what level it is)try driving the jeep and make it fall down into the water if your lucky it will hi the big fish and kill it.Ok now swim a little bit further and you will get attacked by another big fish.(this part is the second time you get the sub )Ignore it and try to swim and evade its attack now go to the other fish wich seems to ignore your presence and swim behind it.The sonar of the big fish that was attacking you will hit the other fish and they will fight pretty cool (the dude who is posting this is crazy and he does not know if it is a bug or not)
3=If you succeed in putting guards in deep water they will just walk in the water and talk in the water like normal?Their guns including the shotgun and assault rifle work just fine underwater same for the miners?Guards cant swim miners can.
4=In both missions(admin and doctor missions) where you use something to replace the enviro suit(suits duh) the suits will actually mix with the enviro and make parker turn into this thing.
5=This bug only happened once.In the cutscene i was using camera2
and the game kinda got crazy or confused.

Isn´t a patch supposed to fix bugs like these? We need an unofficial patch for SP bugfixes. |

There is a patch (I think) for a lot of these bugs. Patch your RF copy with the 1.2 (or 1.3, but throw in Lazyban 1.3 so you can still play 1.2 servers online). 1.2 is the official patch, and (since I've been using it for my entire RF playing time) I've never noticed half of the errors that you've been getting.

How do you use "camera 2"? Without knowing that, I can't recreate some of your errors. Also, the guy who is "sleeping" is probably dead. The only miner still alive at the beginning (very beginning) is the guy off to the tunnel on the far right (at start of very first level, stay to the right, and there is a tunnel behind two warning posts (like the kind they put for cars and other stuff so they know not to pass that point), and in this tunnel there are 2 gas vents (which will highly damage you), and a miner beating on a guard at the very end of the tunnel (there is a small area that looks geo-able, but it isn't, which really args me, since it seems like there is a potential for more exploration)).
Driving the jeep into the water is a good way to die yourself. Notice that if it lands with the top under first, you'll be crushed and killed. Somehow, this happens almost every time I drive into the water. Also, for your "white Parker" picture, it looks like a hacked picture. Notice that the pistol looks nothing like the RF standard pistol (too shiny and non-blocky). Perhaps a mod you had on before may have modified the Parker skin? |

These bugs are known and is most likely your hardware inside your computer.
I would upgrade your sound card to one from the Audigy series. And upgrade your vid card and add the latest drivers for that card. |
