I recently had to use a uz2 extraction program (UT2004mi) to decompress some uz2 files for a VCTF map that I just downloaded.

For some reason, I kept getting an error whenever I tell the prog to extract the uz2 files. I deleted them and re-downloaded them -- I got the exact same error. I decided to search for another way to decompress uz2 files, and I did:
http://ina-community.com/forums/showthread.php?s=bc27cd0f061c5611fb24ff8ed601d201&threadid=409478
This method has you create a registry file that would register the "uz2" extension and allow you to decompress those files just by double-clicking on it. I figured this would work because there would be no middle-man (no program) to go through, but alas, this didn't work either. I kept getting an error.

I was wondering if anyone else experienced this problem with decompressing uz2 files. This is quite frustrating for me because I REALLY want to play this map (vctf-monopoly[UBB]) and it only requires three files that don't come w/ it, one of which I got.

Any suggestions?

I downloaded that file some time ago on the old site. No problem. It's a zip file containing an .utx file (textures), 2 .usx (meshes) files ,one .uax file (sound) and one .ut2 file (map).

It works great (offline) and there is nothing to uncompress or extract (except the .zip with winzip), except maybe if you want to run a dedicated server with it .

Look at here to know where each file goes.

From the readme file:

VCTF-Monopoly[UBB]
created by: [UBB]American_Strength

Included Files - proper directory:
VCTF-Monopoly[UBB] - maps
monopoly.utx - textures
monopoly_door.usx - static meshes
monopoly_mesh.usx - static meshes
monopoly_sounds.uax - sounds

VCTF-Monopoly[UBB]_readme
screenshot.jpg

Additional Files required - proper directory:
BedroomsTex.utx - textures
CBP2_Pasagradae_Tex - textures
CBP2_Pasagradae-SM - static meshes

If you spawn in the jail, you can get out yourself with a well placed shot.

I had no problem placing the included files into the proper folders, no problem. However, I don't have the three additional files that the map needs in order to run.

I found this website that has those three files as independent downloads. All the files on this website all have the .uz2 extension, so I would have to decompress the three files before UT2004 could use them, right?

I don't know how you can extract .uz2 files
If you absolutely need those files, i suggest you could download the maps those files are extracted from (namely:

- ONS-Pasargadae by Ed Duke-Cox from this map pack

- VCTF - WGS Bedrooms 2k4

Hope you have a broadband.

NB: it's pasargadae not pasagradae.

Thanks a lot molodiets -- I've DLed the files you recommended and got, aside from several sweet maps (that I've been playing for the past evening), the files I needed to run the monopoly VCTF map!

Although the problem of my inability to decompress uz2 files hasn't been resolved, this extreme alternative (extreme because I DLed the 195MB map pack at my friend's house, who had DSL, and burned the file onto a CD to bring home) worked out just fine!

Ok you want a program that easily compresses UT files then you should use this one:

UT2004Mi - Unreal Tournament 2004 File manager v2.05

I also use another program called tinyuz2 that doesn't seem to be at the site. HMMMM maybe I should upload it to the site. It is useful to compress and uncompress files but has a flaw. It won't uncompress some system U. files that I noticed and that when I use the other program mentioned above. If you want the program (tinyuz2) I can email it to you.

* Runs back to the Red Faction part of this site since he isn't needed here.
** Thinks about uploading the said file.

OK I was in a good mode today and decided to upload the file after all. You can get it here:

TinyUZ2 v121

You can thank General_187 for adding it so quickly to the site. Imagine that, he was online and I asked him nicely and he did it. If only the real world worked that way.
