Let me enlighten you fellas on the engine RF runs off of...

first off, nothing is possible at all that the .tbl files cannot extend to. this means 3rd person, special effects, slow motion, basically any function that cant be brought on by the tbl files for RF.

the TBL files can modify from; object & entity appearances to preset traits and values, and other easy to access / changeable features. that is all, no more no less. Anything not of that nature cannot be achieved via tbl changes. level editing however can let you do a variety of "illusional" special effects, eg: raising water. However they take lots of time to do and take special timing. which alot of people dont have the patience for.

if you are going to add some special feature that already is not in RF that means breaking down the exe and coding it in hex or C++ and recompiling it. or something among that nature...

hopefully people will stop asking about things like this now

Everyone knew that theres a limitation of the configurable stuff in the table files. And THQ announced it as a mod-friendly game. Yeah right, mostly all you can do is to change the visual and acoustically things of RF. Sometimes you can create new stuff only by thinking of tricks.

What we are asking is HOW to modify this code in an easy way.
RF 1.30 has some new features in the server list. It is all new, with colors that has never been used in the base game. How to do that is my question. I know, its hard work, and I don't have a clue about all that, but I only want to modify small things, slow down the players run velocity for example. That'd have helped Iron Sun alot.

yeah well actually i too knew some of these things what D2K mentioned (like weird animation for climing and running) while using 3rd person camera.

Also it is quite hard to make RF work propely in 3rd person since there is no "camera rotation" coded into game, so camera sits like *** in place you put in.

Also with proper moving you are able to see through the walls when looking in 3rd person, and some of weapons should get their "from_eye" flag removed and aim fixed as it would not be anymore true with reticle.

Actually, it may be possible...but with a lot of limitations. There will be no crouch or swim animation.. you can only use the animation sets of weapons.tbl
Thats all too much experimental stuff.

RF just wasn't made to be a 3rd person shooter.

i can understand the limitations. but than again i'm only thinking of making one weapon be in 3rd persion view. hint hint
