How would I access the safe mode feature on a laptop. It is a Compaq Presario. Also, Safe Mode is needed for the installation of MSN Messenger 7 corrupted the Win98 files somewhere. As to why I need to go into safe mode and uninstall MSN Messenger.

A friend downloaded and installed MSN Messenger 7 from http://messenger.msn.com and after the installation the laptop was rebooted. Then it simply goes to Windows 98 and loads the background and shows an error in the middle of screen as a popup with a solution that says Please Try reinstalling your OS.

WinXP is good but Win98 works well except for that damned blue screen of death!
And yes, but, rather than holding F8 I must rapidly tap it lol. Even safe mode doesn't work.... Well, I'm off to go through my books and see if I can remember all the DOS commands to delete items and such

if its anything like my dell insprion 8200 you should be abe to go into your bios and shut all boot sequences off so that when you reboot, your computer will ask you to go into your bios and change some settings or boot into safe mode.
not sure though
edit ok you fixed it before me and my srry little self
heh i dont see why installing msn has messed up your install though man.
Sounds dodgey!
