Well I really dont know. Usually people either know what they are doing after alot of experience or have other do it for them.

I think they use adobe photoshop to do all the great work

Well, to make a skin over a model in the game all you need is upaint which is located on your UT 2004 CD!

(Im not smart enough to make it work though , but im sure it does.)

[/i]My suggestion. Use UPAINT for making the skin. However, I have found that in making my own skin using UPAINT, I end up having to make my own .UTX file and .UPL file.

UPAINT will make two files, yournameHead.upt, and yournameBody.upt. You open up UNREALED and make a new Texture file called yourname.utx, and add those two images.

The next step is to create the UPL file. The UPL file stores information that describes your charachter history and where the skin textures are located. An example file to look at but not change is the xplayersL1.upl. Take a look at a charachter that is the same type as yours, copy paste it by itself into NOTEPAD, and save it as yourname.upl. Make the necessary adjustments to point to your UTX file and Name Changes, and you should be fine.

IF you want to go that extra step and make a portrait that shows up in the game there is additional steps. I would include that portrait file in the same yourname.utx file. IF you like the additional features that photoshop offers, nvidia does offer a free photoshop plugin, which I use for Unreal Textures and Map editing 3d Hieghtfields.

I hope that helps out...
I am interested in developing maps, and anyone, including begginers who wish to travel this path with, feel free to contact me.

ive made quite a few skiins in my time on upaint, the only problem i'm having is getting team skins to work. Of course they arent really good, and ive made only one wiht a major modification to the old skin.

Btw kiddy (im not trying to undermine you with the name) you have to explore the CD, go to CD6 folder, go on extras, Skinart and in there there will be a upaint folder.
