My hard-drive has NTFS filesystem. It was all stable and calm but from some day there is problem with this(file system).whenever i start my computer and switch to WIN XP chkdsk program executes every time, to check drive E: and F: Here is my hardrive info C: (win 98,FAT 32) D: (win xp,NTFS) E: (NTFS) F: (NTFS).If i try to defragment E: and F: it says - "chkdsk is sheduled to run so it can't defrag E: & F: and run chkdsk/f" but in shedule task program there is no such entry.when i run the code
chkdsk/f it says "Type of file system is NTFS"
"Cannot lock current drive"
"chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process would u like to shedule this volume to be checked the next time system restarts" AND THE PROBLEM PRESISTS
IF FORMATTING THE DRIVE IS ONLY SOLUTION TO ABOVE PROBLEM THEN TELL ME SOME GOOD FREE DOS PROGRAM TO FORMAT HARD DRIVE

Well.. I think you can do it with your Windows XP CD..
If not, try doing a google search for "FDISK"
Wheneverr I format, I use this floppy drive with "FDISK" on it... and that is a HDD formatting program.
Back in RF... getting back into the swing of things!
