Hi guys, I should have UT2k4 delivered by the end of this week,just have a couple of basic questions
1. what minimum specs should I have to run smoothly? just want to make sure i am prepared so I can get up and running quickly
2. Are there any patches or tweaks that i need to do to be able to play online fairly quickly?
any sensible advice or help would be greatly appreciated. |

Hey ENM. Im a new UT2K4 player as well. (maybe we should train some together  )
you can play online straight away but only on un-patched servers.
I recommend the following downloads: (It says to Install the ECE patch first, however you need to DL another patch to let you install ECE first, I installed the otherway around hasn't made any problems as far as I can see, but install them at the same time)

>>ECE bonus Patch<< (this contains new vehicles and characters, maps too.)
anything else is optional really. NCF sent me a Disk FULL of UT2K4 stuff. I never see him online to thank him so hopefully he will read this...

Majority of the mods are worth checking out. (I can't run many due to my Umod installer not working)
Oh you will also need to know where Files go when installing custom content. Levels are obvious... hang on I have a list here....
File Extensions

.ut2 goes into Maps

thanx for the help Beatonator, cant wait to get the game loaded now, I have player the demo and was blown away, its much smoother to run than UT2003 was so I may see you in the servers or we can set up a game sometime. Should be delivered sometime early next week

Also, try the CBPs.
The CBPs are general add-ons made by members of the Unreal Tournament 2004 CBP team.
They include:
Maps
Models
Mutators
All the maps in there have the CBP extension
(e.g. DM-CBP-KillBillybarn) |
Those who follow the path of others lack the imagination or courage to create their own.

You know, I actually have the same problem as Beatonator, my UMOD's won't work, I wonder if we're the only ones?  |

My Umod doesn't work either... it's a fairly common problem.
And yes, get the CBP's. Get ChaosUT2, get HaloUT, get anymore you want. Go to moddb and get them. Clone Bandit's is also a good mod too, very addictive.
After that, just go to UT2k4 downloads, and arrange by most popular, download the top 20 in each category (that's what I did)... it sets you to have most of the maps that custom servers run.
I have 28k and managed to do it, you can too... (of course, that was when the site still supported resuming). |

Pickles, how did you install clone bandits? its a Umod file!
I have several Umod files and am breakin my neck to open them!
I want to play Timesplitters Virus, BUT its a Umod. might re-install...  that might fix it.  |

Go to their website and dowload the .zip file... thats how I install all of my mods...
A newer version is on their website anyways! |

For the people whose .umod's don't work, go to the official UT2k4 site and download the most recent patch. Not the one listed in the side column, the one in the news header. My umods didn't work either until I installed that patch. |

there is also a L4Y file that you can use to extract the files. first you have to get the Umod file out of the zipped folder, then put it into the same folder that umod extractor is in, open umod extractor, click open... then tell it to look for all files, since the file extention is .ut4mod, not .umod, click on the file you wish to extract, then tell it where you would like to place the folder contents.
the only downside is that you have to manually place the files in their respective folders.....  |

my UT4MODs always workd with every game. Then UT2k4 messed up, UT4MODs stopped working and cubemaps and texture enviroment maps were messed up (texture terms within unreal editor), I just reinstalled UT2k4 and they were fixed. |

i also had a few cases like that . A lot of peoples been complaining recently. I hope the staff of the site looks into this (im pretty sure they will). |

Since the downloads seem to not work for many of you, you might try another web site like here:

Don't let the name fool you. They do have a lot of UT2004 files there.
Another good site would be this one:

I actually like that site better. It has links to Filefront and as of yet I haven't had to wait inline and there downloads are pretty quit.
As far as the Umod not installing. I have the older version of the Umod Tool that I can email to anybody that sends me an EMAIL.

LOL Thanks for that and your welcome. Took me a while but I finally read it. I am hardly ever on this part of the site. Also it was a DVD you hoser. BTW how did you like the read me files I included with the DVD.
