Cinder gave me advice to hit the o key to get my mover which is a long cylinder to rotate the way I want, to get rid of the wobble problem that I had in it, but she was thinking about rotating it upright on it's ends and spinning around which is what happens when you hit O in group mode as she suggested for me to do and gives me the wrong spin effect because

I don't want this:

I want this:
----------------------
----------------------

I want the cylinder to spin flat stationary in it's place not standing upright on its end, and neither spinning around like a fan blade but rolling over and over like a log in the water.

So I tried setting it to 90 in the axis properties but the wobble persists. Moving the green arrow around and still the wobble persists. I'm not sure what is wrong or why I can't get a perfect alignment in the axis of the mover as I've got it spinning the way I want, but it's just not spinning smooth. How do we fix this little problem ?

There is a bug too in the keyframe that occasionally happens when you hit R to rotate the green arrow, sometimes it starts to rotate the mover instead of just rotating the green arrow and the brush starts screwing up all over the screen and make a mess.

Circles tend to have 360 degrees. Having it spin 90 degrees, then jump back to start will obviously create a jittery movement. Also, rotating the keyframe won't help you set the motion.

You simply set the arrow to be perpendicular to the blade, so that it represents the spinning axel. Then you set the keyframe to Rotate in Place; 360 degrees; Loop Infinite. Connect a trigger to it, and you should be good to go.

In other words, don't confuse.

Ok Mike you've misunderstood. I am not rotating my cylinder by only a half-circle by 90 degrees and neither am I setting up a fan blade but doing a long cylinder pipe that is supposed to be a roller on a machine. This is how I set up my mover:

Ok first if you have the keyframe highlighted and the green arrow is pointing straight up, you should be able to just type in the ROTATE BY: and input any number and that green arrow should move when you are typing the number.

BUT IT DOSEN'T and just stays still. So to get around that bug, you have to hit R and hold down the arrow keys and THEN it will work. It's stupid, it should do it automatically.

------------------------------------

Ok, now back to my problem...In the Keyframe properties window I set everything to the following:

ROTATE IN PLACE (*) ticked
MOVEMENT TYPE: INFINITE LOOP
DEGREES ABOUT AXIS: 360

In Red's Main Window next to grid size, I set ROTATE BY: and typed in 90 degrees and then clicked on the keyframe and then held down the R key for rotate and hit the down arrow key once and that moved the green arrow down to the 90 degree position facing towards me which is the DIRECTION of rotation that I want the mover to spin around in so it spins around like a log or like a laundry wringer roller.

Having done all those settings, when I run and test the mover, there is a slight wobble as it turns around the wobble appears from one end and then at the other (the spin itself is sightly off it's proper axis a few degrees out and this is not a big mover either so it sticks out like a sore thumb and looks bad. I think there is a bug in Red because I can't find the cause of the problem neither do I know how to remedy this.

OK, think of a the green arrow on a rotate-in-place keyframe as the hinge. Whether that be a door or a spinning object. That is the spindle to which it will rotate.

Now when you add a keyframe to a group it will automatically be placed in the very centre of the group on all axis. That means that if you're cylinder is slightly out of shape then it will rotate out of shape. Or similarly, if you have a brush / object connected to the group then it will put the keyframe out of line form the dead centre of the brush.

On this occasion, my advice is redo the keyframe. Choose a cylinder with an even number of sides and add the keyframe to that. When you are adjusting the rotational axis or location of the keyframe make sure you do it in object mode so that u r not affecting any brushes at the same time.

Also only use your 2-dimensional viewports to rotate and move things, never you're 3d free look.

Other than that, without seeing the map I can't help much

Edit: Send the map to tom.lee1@btopenworld.com and i will have a look at both the fish-bowl and the logs. I won't fix them if that's not what you want but I will be able to explain the problems a lot easier. They are relatively simple things to sort out but it's difficult without getting yer hands on them Send it me and I'll let you know where you've gone wrong
