I have made a space station suspended in space above a planet but encountered FOV problems with things dissapearing on me. I have made platforms and cylinders for towers. The towers are set to detail so they show solid in the outside world.
When I use the lift to go up the tower to the spaceship above, the tower suddenly dissapears when I change my camera angle to looking around or looking up. When I get to the top I see an empty tower, no spaceship or landing pad lights. They dissapeared. Then when I get off the lift platform and go towards the spaceship where it should be, the spaceship and lights suddenly reappear again.
I have set FOV to 800 from the default 300 as I have another space port out into the void that you're supposed to use the spaceship to fly out to and when I start to fly towards it, it soon dissapears as well and when I get close, reappears again.
Somethng strange going on here. But when I fuse the brushes together in my map, everything stops dissapearing on me like this, BUT, all my solid brushes by using fuse turns from solid into air brushes and that ruins the map...

Could be a portal problem. there is probably a portal between the tower and tha spaceship. If there is a portal try to desable it. Else, i don't see, sorry. |

Portals, far clip plane/near clip plane. Those are your suspects. |

1. How big is your map? Is it huge? I think the characers in RF can only see upto abot 300 - 350 RF metres
2. If you are trying to look through more than one semi-transarent detail brush then it can cause strange effects. Ie. through multiple windows or grating.
3. I personally think this is your problem... Is your map suspended in the air? Not touching the floor of your level box? If so, the editor won't indicate any holes that you may have unless the offending brushes are incontact with the walls / floor / ceiling of your main level brush. The holes, if they exist will still cause problems in-game, and could result in the loss of large amounts of geometry. Difficult without seeing the map but try moving your level box experimentally to bring it into contact with your space station. If you get holes then that is most likely to be the problem.
4. Other than that it has to be portal-related. How have you done your portals? If you've done them with face brushes make sure they are solid brushes and checked 'is portal'.
Try these things and get back to us here |

LOL, nope I didn't use any portals at all in the start of creating this one because I used very few faces....I was going to link up a whole series of mini space ports I used very ahem 'crude methods'. It's not a very big map, the whole thing took me an hour to make.
here it is....(when it don't dissapear on me)
Hmm I will put some portals in it somewhere and see if things keep dissapearing.

and here is the other side

it was going all fine until things started to dissapear when going up the lift or looking around, lol
