ok heres the setup... i have a round mover. it spins in a circle like a fan or something. the prob is i want to be able to spin or move in a circle with it. almost like a conveyor belt that goes round and round. i tried putting a push region on the mover, but it wont move with it. i also tried putting a second mover above it in the shape of like a wall, textured invisible, but it wont move you. it kinda bumps you a little, but definately doesnt move you.
any thoughts ,or ideas?

maybe if you look at the movers in Itchs maps or Lotsa's lounge you may be able to use a simialr idea. Lotsa uses rideable movers in a few of his maps and Itch has used them in both his. RJ also has used them in a couple.
edit... didnt you work with RJ on Special Forces? There are ridable movers in there, wouldnt the principle be the same?

Hmmmmmmmm, sounds like you're describing something like a hamster wheel....where the belt is circular....if so, best of luck to you....hard to imagien how that might work.

If you just mean a big conveyor belt (like in DM-CYBORG) then the push regions have to be long ones to cover the entire area of the belt. The tricky part is the transition from push region to push region where the belt turns.

I know you know this already so I have to guess that you're working on something more complex here. Care to give some more description?

ive used plenty of rideable movers. look at A1hottropics. you ride a boat in a circle around the island. this is similar to that, in the sense that you are going in a circle. only thing is... you have no seat or CENSORED pit type area. and making one would completely remove the look and or feel of the brush im using. its like a spinning top, but flat. spinning rapidly in a circle. i would like to be able to step on it, and spin like it does. or any other way to make some one spin???

sorry I think I may have missed the point a little, Itch has a ballon that moves in a circle and a ridable guitar in his maps, but spinning on the spot would be difficult, would it be possible or even feasible to include a small climb zone on the mover to hold the player to it or within the keyframe, as used in Lotsa's teleports? dunno, just trying to suggest something. I'm assuming that you are suggesting something like a record on a record player.

There is no way to control the direction the player is looking at in RF except with your mouse (when you play) or a cutscene (but it would highly reduce the interactivity).
That why you don't spin when you're on the record player in microfaction 6 or in the zepelin in RTS Nickatnight.

But maybe what you want to do is a big wheel like in MF all around the world. I'm not sure i really understand your purpose.

yeah if it is a record player type thing then you could probably allow the player to go round in a tight circle but would always face the same direction and not spin with the record

You want it to be like a giant turntable or merry-go-round? The mover itself will not force the player to rotate It will have to be done with a load of push regions I am afraid. Might not give you the desired effect but as far as I can think, it is the only way.

Edit: Perhaps you could make invisible ribs on the disc about knee height that catch the player and force him round... I dont think you'll be able to have it spinning desperately fast tho without causing problems

Maybe it's possible to create a carrousel by using non rotating keyframes. It's delicate. You'd have to create several small platforms/movers placed in circle. For each mover you would create a round (cylindric) path of keyframes. That way players could step onto one of the movers and turn around the axis. Then "cover" your movers with a merry go round set to no player collide. That way, players won't see the platforms. Now you just have to hope Players will step on the platforms and not beside (falling through the merry go round)
But it's really complicated and have no interest compared to the push regions method.

I tried this once. You get right throu the rip like you do in the zepelin of Nickatnight.

I believe thats all you need to know for your idea. If you want somebody to spin in place without the person doing it himself with the mouse. It is impossible.

If you get the speed, size and height right it can be done with some measure of sucess.

Look at the rotating fan-type things at the start of one of the Death Run's ( I think number 2, not sure tho ) Or my fan in The Pit, that drags you around. As the others said though you can't alter the direction a player looks in unforunately.

My advice is to try and bulid a sld_invisible fan rotating at the same speed above the 'disc' which will carry people round.

i gave that a try in many different sizes and shapes, and none of it worked. the occasional nudge here and there, but never a push. i even tried making the texture below me ice so i would slide easier if it would push me, and still no luck.
ill look into the above maps, and see if something diferent was done.

Why dont you use push regions?
