Hey,
Its been a while since i posted. (Not even sure if people still come here)
About 2 years ago, I planned on overhauling the Red Faction Master Tracker.......
Well I finally got around to it.
I have been noticing that the server would randomly crash lately, and I has been a pain finding out It has been down and having to restart it. Soo I have fixed the issue (I think), and added a couple features.
One of those features is the ability for the community to keep track of the server output, and use it for troubleshooting server / connection issues.
Feel free to check it out @ http://rf.thqmultiplay.net.
Hope you guys can make some use of it.

I added the webpage to help the users who try and host a server, but It never shows up.
99% of the time, either the port isnt forwarded correctly (firewalled) , OR
When you host a server (on port 7755 for example) the router remaps the source port to a random free port (say 15957) which breaks RF because the clients try to connect on port 15957 but the server is running on 7755.
If you look under recent activity on the page, and you know that you hosted on port 7755, but it comes up "Registering Server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:15957" then you know this is what is happening. There is very little I can do, unless you run a server 24/7 on a true static IP (if this is the case I can manually add the server to the tracker on the correct port).
NOW if you see the correct port "Registering Server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:7755" and the server doesnt show up, it could be for 2 reasons.
1) Your router doesn't support Internal NAT Redirection, or it is disabled. In this case to test, get a friend (who isnt using your connection) to see if they can see the server. If they can, then all is good. Add your server as a favourite and move on.
2) You do not have your ports forwarded correctly in your router, there is a port conflict, or your routers firmware is broken and is not correctly forwarding the ports. Refer to your router documentation, contact your local networking guru, something along those lines to determine the above. **maybe** try resetting the router to factory (you may break your internet connection if you have a modem/router combo). DO AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Hope this is helpful. I have gotten alot of requests for help, but I have been extremely busy lately and havent been able to help everyone. I hope people can use this to help themselves, or get help from someone.
Enjoy..

cool may you add my server computers static ip?
xxx.xxx.x.xxx:7756
hopefully that would fix my never ending problem. thanks
I'll leave the server up 24/7 from now on.
Edit: yep just sticks me on a random port everytime.

I host voice chat servers. other games servers and a ftp + remote desktop and I never have had any problems setting anything up but RF. |

The reason the other services work, is the ports are forwarded correctly, but the services you mentioned don't announce themselves. They require the end user to know the ip and port they are connecting to in advance.
Ill add your server to the tracker, but if it turns out to be dynamic (and changes), it wont add it again.

just to confirm it works very well for me
I don't even have to add it manually on LAN computers for them to see the server |
