Hey guys,
last night i shut down my computer, and now since this morning it won't boot anymore..
Well it boots, it says 'Windows failed to start last time..' where i need to choose normal or safe mode, then when i choose (doesnt matter what i pick) windows Vista starts booting, then when it's ready, my laptop reboots, and i'm back at the beginning. Also when i insert a windows cd and set boot priority of the cd drive to 1, i get the same thing
damn typing on an EEE keyboard is difficult
I hope you guys can help! |

Hmmmm, Ghostkid, I think your hard drive has become defective. This does not happen very often but there is quite a lot of reason why it could.
Digi's idea might work with the dban, but if it does not, then your screwed.
(Digi already suggested this but all he said was "Pull out drive"... Not very detailed.)
What I would suggest is taking out the hard drive from your computer, and plugging it into another computer. This will work and allow you to access the contents. Back up all your files from the C: drive of your hard drive to this other computer or any other storage device you may have. Once you have done this, reformat that hard drive from that computer, to save you from doing it through Windows CD since it does not work.
Once thats done, pop it back into your other computer, get dban on a disk as digi said, run it against your hard drive, and re-install windows.
If you get problems accessing your hard drive from the other computer, the hard drive is dead.
I hope mine and digi's information combined helps you solve the issue . |

In the BIOS settings, did you set your first bootable device to CD/DVD Drive?
In order to boot from CD, you need the CD Drive set as the first boot device, so that bios looks for any bootable software and start it.
If it is prompting to insert a bootable disk, this means that your laptops not detecting your hard drive at all. It will be worth getting the Boot order sorted first so that you can boot from a Windows CD and see if Windows detects the hard drive.
You can also see if your hard drive is detected via bios, check in there and make sure that your hard drive is listed in the device list.
If its not showing in Bios, remove your hard drive, check all cables and connections and try again. |

Yes i know this & i did this, booting from the harddrive works but when i set my CD drive as primary boot device, it just boots my hdd, if i remove my hdd from the boot list it tells me to insert a bootable cd or something like that. i do hear the cd spinning, and my cd (dvd) drive was working perfectly before my laptop crashed.. |

Strange, in that case I am sure you didnt set the dvd to boot first.
Perhaps you did in the bios but did not save before exiting the bios ?
Try to set the hdd to boot last and also let him boot "other devices".
He then will surely boot from cd.
Mind you do have to have an original system cd, not a copy.
Sometimes its just the data they copied and then its not a bootable cd.
As for the problem, once you can boot from cd, do a repair on the system.
Will take a while but will boot afterwards withought any data loss.
For more advanced users here is the solution with which I repaired a few systems with the same error :
