I haven't played RF or logged into L4Y in many a moon. However I went to the RED editor and the computer I have has windows 7, I made a level to get the feel for it again, I have descent tools, I exported as VPP and I also created the packfile and saved it under "User Maps ->Single", I tried to play the level and it tells me it couldn't load the file, is anyone getting this issue on windows 7 or I have forgotten to do some trick? Any help would greatly be appreciated as I am unable to play user created maps...

I can tell you that it's not a Windows 7 nor a 64-bit problem.

The post says I did save in the user_maps/single player directory. I did create a packfile, does anybody read the post? lol

I don't recall ever having this issue before.. so I don't know whats up. It may be a security issue, windows 7 does have some idiotic security measures that do mess with certain games, I've had that before.

I may throw it in the multi section to see if it works for the hell of it.

I swear I made a post earlier

Create Level Packfile then used the descent tools to packfile that? your packing twice.

Did you just stick the saved file (rfl) in a VPP?

I'm not retarded I'm done past the basics. I have verified that. I made a packfile and have packed in VPP manually and done it back to back, RED says the packfile was created successfully I put the maps in the appropriate directory, it simply says it can't load the file. I am trying to figure out why it won't access the file if its packed correctly and is in the right directory.

Here's what RED churned out in the message box:
(keep in mind I have tried to place both in the single AND multi directories)

Creating Packfile...
File List:
C:gamesRedFactionuser_mapsmultiPlay Around.rfl
1 files.
Writing header...
Writing files...
Adding C:gamesRedFactionuser_mapsmultiPlay Around.rfl
Packfile size:
212992 bytes
Done!

Oh wow this is new... I just tried to play single play and it gives me an error message

Looks to be an issue with your copy of the game. Probably missing needed meshes or animations.

yea im more leaning on the idea of faulty copy of the game, than the fact that its named DM or CTF prefix, that shouldnt matter, thats only in multiplayer that becomes important. its just testing a level, normally you save it, pack file it and play it, you only put the prefix in the vpp file, maybe the disk is screwed up but what I want to know is why it installs ok and then it pulls this, im puzzled and I would have to go on torrent to get another disk download or go buy it on ebay, this is burnt... Any ideas?

Not true, the .rfl file needs to have the prefix, the vpp filename technically doesn't matter as long as it's the only vpp file loaded by the game with that specific filename.

Also, while using PF, you don't even need to use prefixes for DM/TDM maps.

You could always try sending the VPP to a friend to see if they can load it or check to see if they could spot the problem?

Potentially useful side note != shameless plug.

True but if he did that people not running PF would not be able to play it right so you might as well use them?
Also, did anybody suggest the compatibility mode on Windows 7?

No, they can. They just can't switch their own servers to that map, but considering there's only one server in the game that ever has any players in it that isn't running PF, it's pretty much a non-issue.

Also, compatibility wouldn't cause an entity spawn error.

I've seen that issue hundreds of times, and every time it was because of missing or corrupt resources.
