hey i just recently got my red faction editor working again and was working on a map but seem to be stumped as far as making transparent breakable glass windows, any tutorials?

To be more specific than digi was lol, follow these steps.
Step 1
Make a solid brush that you wish to be your glass window.
Select Face as your brush face and select Solid as yout brush type.
Click the Create Brush button and then hit your spacebar to build geomentry.
For the shatter effect to work, use the brush type Face.
Step 2
Resize your brush to fit it into place as a window by select the blue crosses on the corners of the brush.
You can then drag out and move them to make the brush bigger, or smaller.
Hit your spacebar to build geomentry.
You can resize it better by using vertex mode.
Step 3
With your brush selected, right click it and go to properties.
In here, tick the box Is Detail and set the life to how strong you want it.
1 being very weak, 250+ being the strongest. -1 being not breakable at all.
Step 4
Texture it with a glass texture on both sides of the brush.
Select a face, click Apply and Apply map.
Hit your spacebar to build geomentry
Sometimes, it might be good to use UV Wrap to put the texture into place.
Once you build geomentry, you will see that your glass should become semi transparent.
This means it has worked and if you now go into game, and shoot your glass, it will shatter into many little pieces.
