What I want to do.

I've got the miner sitting in the front of the jeep.

But I want him to do all the driving for me
while I use the gun in the back .

But I can't get this to work because I don't know how to get the miner to
automatically start driving the jeep for me as soon as I jump in the back.

This is quite advanced.

How do I set this up?

First step is waypoints, then you need a trigger. Im not 100% sure of the "correct" setup but You could try a Event Trigger surrounding the vehicle that activates on the "Player, Vehicle combo (not sure of option name, im at work)" therefor as soon as he climbs in, the trigger activates.

Cheap but effective? Will take a look when I get a shot at home if no-one else, or yourself can figure it out and see if maybe I can get it to work :

yeah i found it. on the vehicle check the box labeled: "boarded (vehicles only)


The Canyon Jeep setup that I want to get working in my own custom map is found
in L12S1 of the Game Levels.

BUT... The setup is very advanced and is totally different.

The Jeep dosen't even any 'Boarded Vehicles flag checked'
And neither does the miner....
None of them have that flag checked which is a surprise because I expected
the guy who designed the level to have it checked...

The setup is so advanced for there are six blue links connected alone to the jeep.


If anyone can get the miner to drive the jeep, let me know, this is too complicated to try to figure it out looking at the game maps because there are too many links into other things.


There are also two waypoint eveents with two waypoint lists.
The Jeep is connected to the one called Jeep_Path
and also the Miner is connected to the one called Jeep_driver_Path to make things even more tricky.

Are both the paths the same? It could be the designer accidentally duplicated it? or maybe each identity needs a different path.

I can try to have a look when I get home if I remember (sorry forgot all about it), I have just got into work.

Nope, I still haven't got it working for my custom map to get that miner driving the jeep along waypoints for me so I can to a shooting gallery because I can't understand the logic of the setup.... Come on, how hard can it be to just get the miner to drive a bloody jeep
for you?...

I get in the jeep at the back while the miner is seated in the front and alas he just goes nowhere and instead has a waiting Ai holiday, the AI is asleep at the wheel !!...

It was such a weird bizzare setup the guy who made the canyon level , I've never seen anything like this before. Because there are so many different events linked up to it. No waypoint path is even defined in the Jeep or miner properties at all, that's getting creepy.

It feels like I'm way out of my depth here. I know how to make a jeep follow
waypoints, yeah, but this kind of setup on 20 or so events needed to make the AI do
some simple driving for you is a bit ridiculous.

The Waypoint pathname for the Jeep is under Follow_Waypoints_Event. The
waypoint list there is called Jeep_Path and the pathname for the Miner;s Waypoint
list is called Jeep_Driver_Path so there are Two Waypoint lists both using the same navgation points.

(To me it looked like they defined the same navpoints for Both the Miner and the Jeep
but named them as two different lists. )

Interestingly too, both the Miner and the Jeep are linked up separately to the same Trigger and this trigger (is flagged: Player_Vehicle) is located not where the miner and jeep are (It's not the trigger that's located right underneath the Jeep for that tigger is
for removing all of Hendrix's crap which is irrelevant, who wants Hendrix's crap anyway, for Hendrix was crap, never liked him.

This trigger I'm speaking about is the one which is supposed to get the Miner driving the jeep and it is is located right at the end of the navpoints at other end of the canyon miles away at the other end !!!!

Inside this trigger box you find they linked up an Invert_Event to an Enable_Navpoint Event connectd to the last navpoint of the Jeep's journey (Not beginning).

(Well from this setup It looks like to me that the Enable_Navpoint event dosen't work unless it is linked first with an Invert_event to a trigger to turn the navpoint on..)

This trigger is also linked to a Set_AI_Mode event too that is set to Cantonic for the AI and is linked all the way across the canyon back to the Jeep. (Outside the Trigger)

Why the hell do they want to Set the Ai MODE to canttonic again when in the Jeep's Properties window the AI its already been set to Cantonic anyway, so why twice?

(It seems to me that these guys who programmed the game, had only half
their projects turn out as successful, and the rest turned out to be coding
flops or disasters and that would explain why you can' get some things to work
in Red the way they should and they were forced to instead work around the
bug-riddden editor of using other events to make it work and that's why their
setups would be more complicated..........)

Normally if you have waypoints, you set the Ai-Mode to Waypoints. But they didn't....
Instead they set it to Cantonic.

How bizzare.

Now it gets even more weirder when you find when you go back to the Miner and the Jeep again that they used a couple of more links, connecting this time to a When_Dead Event from the Jeep and tht's linked to a Delay_Event a delay to what?

To Slay an Object, ok so which object to slay? And you find its linked back to the Bloody Miner !!

Why do they want to slay him for?
Hes the guy driving the dam jeep !

They also connected from the Jeep a When_Enter_Into_Vehicle Event connecting it to a delay_Event , only to link that to a Remove Object event again and what is the object for
removable?

The When_Enter_Into Vehicle Event is what's being removed !!!!

What do they want to do that for?
The guy is sitting in the vehicle why didn't they just flag it as Board Vehicle !!

This just makes no sense. These guys are starting to piss me off.

On the Jeep propeties window: They set the jeep to Deaf and Never Flee and that should be enough so why the hell would they want to link an Enter into Vehicle Event back into itself
only to remove it again? I can't make any sense of this setup.

THE MINER

This is also bizzare

All these little shady backdoor tricks they never mentioned in their help file on waypoint
setups, no wonder its hard to figure out their setup !!

They set 4 flags on him, Don't hum, Never Flee, Fade Corpse, and No Shadow.

And what is his AI Mode set to? Set to Waiting?
Wait a minute, what do you mean set to waiting?

Hes supposed to be following the bloody waypoints list called Jeep_Driver_Path?

He is not even set to waypoints, There's no waypoint list defined in his
entity properties window..

Hes connectd instead to a Follow Waypoints event which contains the list.
Can someone tell me how the hell can an entity follow the waypoints when his
Ai is set to just waiting around ?

Okay, the only conclusion I come up with is that the AI is buggy in the Entity window
and dosen't work properly with the waypoints, so they had to use Set Ai Mode event
and a few tricks to make it work.

Ok from the Miner, hes connected to a Attack Jeep_Driver_Event , and also to
that Trigger I mentioned the same as the jeep and another link to a Teleport
Out Of Jeep Event.........

From what I can understand... (cant check it out till later...)

The waypoint list has been created. (twice, duplicated). The Jeep/Miner doesnt have the waypoint or off he would go right away. He needs to wait for you to get in first, once in it triggers the waypoint. The final Invert_Event ->Enable_Navpoint doesnt enable it, it DISABLES. hence the Invert, (opposite effect) probably stopping him from driving back.

The slay event is in the annoying possibility the Vehicle dies, he should die too. Just clears that up.

Will have a better look when I get home if I remember.

Yeah, I need to know is how to set this up so that the Miner waits for me to get into the
back of the jeep and then he just drives off. I don't care if he gets shot along the way.
I'm ony concerned about getting him moving.

Ok well I made a custom level, set up the waypoints, linked the Set AI, ect, nothing happened...

But as soon as I enlargened the Vehicle Trigger to the whole room size, now the miner
starts driving the jeep when I get into it, but the jeep stops still a few feet and
does nothing.

Then when I get out of the vehicle again it moves forward a few metres along the
waypoints again and then stops a few feet........

The Jeep It is stopping and starting every 2 seconds when I enter and
exit the vehicle.

The Miner is supposed to drive the jeep all the way through the waypoints when I'm in the jeep so something is wrong here.

What i might do since its now working for me, is when the jeep goes through the journey, at the end, make use of the jeep driver for another task (if you get him through in one piece)

So I will make me and the driver have to walk into a couple of separate tunnels (might make that a cutscene.) and at the end of the tunnel a short distance leading
to a couple of pressure pads in the ground, that you and the jeep driver) to
stand on both the pads at the same time in order open the big door to the next level)

OR I can use a custom VMF miner animation sequence to make the miner
press something on the wall.. So Soon as I press something on the wall,
a cutscene then plays showing the miner in the other tunnel going over
to the wall and pressing the pressure pad button as well in order to open the door.
