if you change anything in the vpp of an existing map, it will not have the same data as other people or servers that run that map unless they all change as well, if it is for a new map it's ok you will find a thread possibly a sticky on how to in the level editing section http://redfaction.levels4you.com/forum.l4y?do=view&t=3493

if u want to put music in a map follow these steps:

1. Use a program to convert the music file to .wave format
2. Rename the file to whatever you want.
3. Save it on your multi or Single folder as a .wave file.
4. Open your map in RED.
5. Add an ambient sound to your level.
6. Make sure that the ambient sound is inside the map
7. Adjust the the volume scale to your liking. 1 being the loudest.
8. Adjust your Min distance so that the inner ring covers the whole level.
9. Leave all other setting the way they are.
10. Rebuild your level (space bar).
11. W, Shift + W, L, shift + L
12. Save your level.
13. Create a level pack file (using RED).
14. Open the level you just created using the .vpp builder.
15. Add the music file to it.
16. Save it.
There the file is now done, run a server to try out your new level. It should work now.
How many ambient sounds have you added? Make sure you don't have more than one. You can check by opening the map and going to group mode. If you have more than one, delete them all and start over.
Note: When you edit your map or even open it and save it again, you will need to add the music file to it again, as it won't be there anymore after you do any changes or just re-save the map again

actually I'm pretty sure you can change anything in a vpp file, except the rfl file, without rf saying data doesn't match. as long as you use the same names as the original files everything should work fine.

If you want to change the music in an existing map, just open up the vpp with vpp builder and look for the .wav music file, and once you see it remember the name of it. now convert the music you want to change the level music to, to a .wav file if it isn't already. then re name it to the exact name of the old .wav file in the vpp. Then drag the new wav file into the vpp using vpp builder. it should overwrite the old .wav file. then just go to file then save and run the level and it should now have your new music and still be compatable with people playing the level using the old music.

That was how you would change music in an existing map, if your creating the map for the first time then use the directions posted above me, except rather then put the music file in the levels vpp file, I would make a new vpp file just for the music, so you don't have to re add the music every time you save your level and create a new vpp file.

wouldnt you have to make sure that the new song is the same size as the old one or it will change the size of the vpp

RF doesn't care about .vpp size, just .rfl size.
