Before you save the map you must calculate the lighting. (lightmaps)
Otherwise the map will "turn dark" when you geomod.

This is done with the key combination:

Press: L
Press: W
Press: Shift+W
Press: Shift+L

Do this everytime before you test the map. And of course do not forget to do this before you release it!
If the map is too dark after doing this, add Lights or raise the ambient brightness in "Edit" ->"Level Properties"

--
What the keys do:
L : ambient lights, W : hide objects, Shift+W : Unhide objects, Shift+L : calculate lightmaps

A lightmap is an automatically generated texture which acts like a layer on diffuse textures. It changes the illumination on the diffuse textures. (for shadows and bright light sources)

Kewl. Although I find it easier to do it this way: W + Shift W, L + Shift L

Why release shift when you can hold it. Makes no sense.
Also it is totally unimportant which of those two is used.
And when I think about it, what were the devs doing at all?
They could have easily hacked the lightmaps progress so it hides and unhides objects itself. Nasty hack, but it would have made things a lot easier.

I don't have any software for it.
Probably TrotSkie would know how to do it, it should be a simple function.
However I don't really think even that effort would be worth it afterall. Perhaps it would have already been done if only someone mentioned it to the mighty coders.

I made this thread sticky too.
I know most of us know this already but it's useful for the new mappers out there.
