S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Delayed..............................again

A news update on THQ's German site reveals that S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl has once again been delayed. This time, however, it looks as if the title has slipped into the indefinite "when it's done" category.

The announcement quotes Oleg Yavorsky of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developer GSC GameWorld. Roughly translated, the Yavorksy's comment reads: "We're happy that THQ is giving us more time for the development process. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is an extensive game which will raise the bar for the genre. We want to make sure that we publish the game only when it fulfills the highest expectations of both us and the fans -- and not before."

When last we heard about the ambitious first-person adventure title, THQ was announcing a release this spring. Now, it looks like GSC GameWorld is taking the DOOM 3 (or Duke Nukem Forever) route -- we'll see this puppy when it's done.

More as news comes in.

Oh well, I'd rather it be released properly rather than have to download 20 patches to make it work

Agree on that; if it turns out as good as it looks, it is worth the extra waiting
A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

hmm is this where game developing will lead us?games so good that it will take uber amounts of time to finish.if so then games will only be released every 2 years or so in time!thius isn't good. not saying that i don't wanna wait, just that it seems more and more games keep pushing back their dates and it's rellay annoying me!

Nothings really changed Blaze. Very few FPS games are built from scratch. There is a lot of common ground between them as far as the technology used to create most of them is concerned.

Take Half Life2's ground breaking physics. It's jst the same old Havok 2 engine we've seen before but utilised to greater effect.

Games aren't getting so complicated that they take forever to build because, for the most part games are made utilising third party programing.

Game's like Half life 2 were delayed because, amongst other things, Gabe couldn't manage to keep his passwords to himself (and Steam wasn't ready (not saying it's ready yet )).

Half Life 1 was delayed too. Infact most games don't reach their original release date and even after that they have to be patched again and agian.

Umm what was my point?

Oh yeah. This is not a new developement. It's always been like this. Personally, like most gamers, I'd prefer them to get the game right before releasing it rather than releasing a half finished game on time and having to reinstall the damn thing 18 months later when they finaly release the final patch that fixes most (never all) of the problems.

Oh yeah, probably been following this game for almost a year now and it looks, from what I've read and seen, like it is going to be a must have, ground breaking game.

Pity about THQ publishing it though.
