Welcome!
Post 2 / 5

Hi there,

Anyone can tell me why ATI cards do not have the Nvidia 8xxxx and up problems with the graphics in RF?

And why the ATI's cards cannot see through some of the walls with the rail gun (while scanning) but the Nvidia's can?

How fast can I switch from my ATI card to the onboard display Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500 (DirectX 10) from the mobo? And will it play RF without all the problems above?

Thanks a lot for any info!

ATi and NVidia cards are simply designed differently, which results in various differences.

In order to switch to your onboard graphics from your current video card (I wouldn't recommend it) you need to do a couple of things.

First, you need to shut your computer down and plug the cable from your monitor into the onboard video port. This may be all you need to do, but sometimes it won't be enough.

Second, you need to go into your computer's BIOS and set your onboard to the primary display. If you don't know how to do this I suggest you not try. An alternative could be to just remove the video card altogether.

Lastly, turn your computer on and install the video drivers for your onboard chipset.

Although it'll likely run RF just fine, I don't recommend downgrading to onboard, as it really offers no benefits over a stand-alone card.

I wouldn't call those problems.... RedFaction has better offering with ATi/AMD cards IMO, always have from my past experience with the ATi cards and nVidia cards I used for this game.

I would definitely not switch to the onboard video as your 4670 is DX10 and is far more superior.

nVidia and AMD have completely different physical and driver software architecture to each other, therefore they behave slightly different

Nvidia CENSORED up in a driver update, and all updates afterwards share the same issuses.
And since nobody is or can contact nvidia about it, nothing will change. I doubt nvidia couldn't care less anyway.

They are keeping sales up by producing new high end hardware and making the mid range affordable.
Both are focussed on performance hungry games like Crysis or UT3...not 10 years old games such as Red Faction. lol

And actually there are fixes for Red Faction, so they yet again don't have to care.

Actually the guys from Volition and THQ should have done something since years. It's their product afterall. (game devs and driver devs work together)
So now, who's the one not caring.. (and is this new? no)

I hope RFG has some sort of GPU based physics capability. I cant imagine it running very well on a CPU.

It runs on their systems and PS3, that's all you need to know.
GPU physics acceleration yet only is a joke and marketing thing. When I tryed it, it didn't boost anything.
And the games that support PhysX acceleration are made to run slow on non-physx systems, that's for sure. The games that require a real PhysX card for example use excessive mass physical calculations (excessive use of cloth, ugly colliding particles, non-stop updating rigid bodies) whilst the results aren't even looking good at all.

From what I saw of the Mirrors Edge PhysX demo it looked like a big improvement over the standard settings.

Yep it is, but since PhysX is Nvidia's 3rd party graphics program, it sucks balls on ATI.
I had to take PhysX settings off on Mirrors Edge just to get a decent FPS.
The new improvement would be Windows 7... Using Processor for Graphics Performance will prove to be a whole lot better when its fully developed.

The cloth in Mirrors Edge looks like a joke.

It's too weird when the enemies fall through those foils.
There is no big improvement at all.

And what Spikey mentioned about the lag is just what I've said previously.
They make the game on purpose run slow with PhysX enabled on non-PhysX system.
Otherwise, what would be the point in getting it.. lol
I've seen uber dumb looking stones rolling...yes, rolling...around the floor. It looked so funny and unrealistic (I don't see any stones rolling around 5 meters when I walk over them), PhysX particles system is the worst I've seen. And the only purpose of it is spamming the hardware with useless crap calculations.
big improvements..omg

Well obviously. Hardware isn't going to run something it doesn't support very well, if at all.

Not from what I saw. Looked pretty good to me.

I doubt that; there are some pretty bad particle systems out there.

Thanks for all your replies but it takes a tech genius to comprehend what you are saying..lol
Btw, Is it because of my core 2 duo that all the other players looks like they are warping everywhere in the game? Am I warping too? Is there a fix for this at all?
Thanks again..!!

You can try this, Red Faction Dual Core Fix
