Hello all,
You all remember the thread I made about Mirrors Edge map as my final map for Red Faction. Just to let you all know that its going well so far.
At this time, its stuck on hold until I get my self a copy of the PC Version of Mirrors Edge, rather than the Xbox 360. I have played it and completed it and its a fantastic game.
The map base has been completed. It will need texturing now, as to why I need Mirrors Edge PC, and also Detail will play a massive factor in this map too.
I am currently working through my head on ways of how to make it feel like Mirrors Edge, to Allow you to go faster, other than creating a mod for it.
Push Regions might be my answer to this.
But anyways, for re-assurance, I am not giving up on this map .
Hope you all enjoy it when its Released.

Sounds intresting alltho it will be pretty hard to get the same feel as in Mirrors edge.
I really like mirrors edge, I only have heard that the game is very short. but thats not the subject here. |

As you should know, its not impossible. nothing is impossible in Red Faction. Ive already thought up of how to successfully do it and its in my Noodle. For huge jumps and such, use push regions but in a way, im going to make it speed you up a little. Also for things like Wallrides, Climb regions and when u jump side ways off that, another push region that will give u that little extra push off. I have already thought it through and I do not think its impossible at all. |

nothing is impossible? Make some cars and fly able crafts which work online then 
Or make a gta mod.

I wouldn't go as far as to say "nothing is impossible," but Red Faction is very flexible and it sounds like you've got it all figured out. I mean, if I could get portals similar to those of Portal working in-game, I'm sure there's a lot more possible than most people give Red Faction credit for. Good luck with your map, Spikey2005. |

Hmmm I never tried this out, but I did have a theory on how to work this, wouldnt be "portal" style where you can shoot through them, but definetely teleport between the 2 areas. |

I don't see how this could even come close to Mirrors Edges feeling.
If everything was possible with RF, I wonder why Dice didn't choose that awesome engine. |

Well in everyones aspects of stating "Its Impossible for RF" it is true. But I like to make people think that nothing is impossible. You know why?
Because saying that makes more people who don't map, Want to map!
They think nothing is impossible, they map until their hearts content.
Let people know that if something seems impossible, its not impossible for RF in way if they work around it.
Its impossible to have multiplayer vehicles and flying vehicles... We have movers.... Kind of out of sync and unable to control by the player as they follow a path set by the creator. Still its close and its the closest thing we are going to get.
GTA Map for RF? If only Red had no limitation, then it be possible. Ive already thought of a way but I doubt it work but it be difficult as hell... Maybe you could shrink the player (Make a Mod in that aspects) so the player would be really small but still hold all the details he/she has. Then construct a map miniture style. Because you might be able to add more, the small it is. It might be a possibility but never has been tried.
We have came close to GTA like maps in RF like CityWar, Town 1 & 2. Only problem, you are limited to a confined area or certain area of a town like map with an edge.
Anyways, Screen shot of my Mirrors Edge map so far. It is not much, but detail will be getting added soon when I get some textures.

I used a series of teleport objects, cameras, triggers, and monitors. Goober was kind enough to create a custom-shaped monitor in 3DS Max for me, and using that, a camera, and a decal I made it to look like (and act very similar to) a portal, though, it was fairly low-res.
Back on topic. If I might make a suggestion, Spikey, the sidewalks are as wide as the streets, you could probably narrow them down a bit. As for the overall layout, it looks good. Not much work has been done yet compared to a final product, but it's getting there. Can't wait. |
