Hey Guys...

After getting Nailed with a virus that hijacked my explorer and totally screwing up my win xp.. i decided to go back to windows 2000 ( SP4).

So here is my question..

I have a 8600 GTS ( Nvidia) and am running Driver version 6.14.11.6921 and the driver date is 12/5/2007.. I looked on nvidia's site and the new ones say they only run XP/Vista or whatever, i saw the archive for win 2000, But i am not sure which one is the current one, So i need some help finding the Current Driver. If you guys can help me that would help.

Thanks

Lanshire, the best help I would offer is to go to (or back to XP). There are plenty of issues with Win2000, and I can't think of any (security) type reason to go back to it if you had XP before. If you were running XP and were vulnerable to something, chances are you're just as vulnerable (if not more so) with Win2000.

Good luck,
Stu

All you need to do is call Microsoft if you want to install XP again.

They will need your serial to be able to help you.

actually win2k is one of the most secure.
I saw a review of the total virus counts for all the os's win2k and server 2003 had the least , around 200,000 while xp had the most at least 3 time more than any other os @ 4 million counts.

theres ways to get around microsofts activation thingy for xp, if it says ur over your limit, yet still get full updates and stuff. you just have to know where to look. but I don't think I can say much more here cuz it'd prolly be against the forum rules.. lol

I certainly don't want to seem as though I endorse any Microsoft product (except Visio and their wireless laptop mice). I believe I read that article as well, and there were certainly holes in what was being written. You really aren't going to get any security updates for Win2000 though so I'd certainly go with XP (if you have the choice). As for kernel differences, 2000 and XP are both built on the NT kernel and have their fair share of vulnerabilities.

I think there are a couple lessons here:
1. Don't believe everything you read on the Internet.
2. Reduce the amount of porn you surf and you'll lessen your chances of being compromised.

haha I also thought that.
My comp pretty never got that CENSORED because I know which sites I can go on and which not.
(PureFaction was the biggest in years. LOL And yea.. seems like it was wrong alarm. )
I cannot allow any data damage on my PC.

The torjan and virus stuff doesn't just come without your own doing.
And of course you also need a firewall and anti virus/malware scanner.

What a stupid idea to go on Win2000 with an 8600. Sounds like more ignorance than anything else.

Don't let it bother me. I've re-formatted my PC many times and I too went over the limit. I had to call them and give them the number that they asked for and they too asked if I was using it on any other PC. I told them I wasn't ( which I am not, I own 4 copies of windowsXP ). Now the time I had to call them because I installed a new DVD burner. NOW that chopped my hyde. It was BULL that I had to re-register it.
Lanshire, if it's your copy. Don't worry about it. Just call them. Like StuPidaso, between both operating systems, XP is the more secure one because they are still giving you updates for it.
Just be sure that you FULLY do all the annoying updates and that you install an anti-virus program (updated of course) before you even think about going online... Well you can still come back here even before you do any of that.
Also try using these program afterwards:

1. superantispyware

2. Advanced SystemCare Free v3

--These two will basically block a lot of known bad sites that can infect you.--

3. SpyBlaster

4. Spybot - Search & Destroy©® 1.6.0
