Hi. Well I got my new pc a few weeks back and just recently hopped back into RF. I have enjoyed maybe a few games with rfinfo and voltz ctf, but haven't really spent as much time as I used to because most servers were empty. But what concerns me is that the Lucky Frag server has been empty for weeks and usually it's one of the most active servers. Not only that but the lucky frag website has been quite innactive. Actually the website has been going under some kind of reconstruction for more than a week now. So really I'm posting this just to see what everyone on lucky frag is up to. And I really don't have that much contact info, which is why I'm posting this here on L4y. So yeah just wondering whats up? If it's something like real life, or work, or girlfriends something like that then I understand.

LuckyFrag is still functional. The UT2004 is pretty active in the evenings The site is under reconstruction, yes..."Life" has gotten in the way of Hapa Hanu beginning the coding. But other than that, everyone has just been working and trying to make it through the recession. lol.

Yeah the recession has hit pretty hard here also... At my dad's work they've been laying off abunch of people and my brother was just layed off a month ago and has been having some trouble getting a new job. Actually I've been having trouble also, I applied at probably 8 different jobs and I have yet to hear back from any of them. Unemployment sucks...

On another note, I have been visiting the UT2004 server, but that has been empty as well. But it looks to me that most of you are playing Combat Arms last time I checked. As for me I've tried to get into Combat arms, but I don't really enjoy it as much as I enjoy playing CSS. Actually CSS is about the only game that I play now. So if there was a luckyfrag CSS server then that would be nice.
Or maybe if you would give me an exact time that anyone usually plays in the UT2004 server then I might drop in.

To be honest, the recession hasn't hurt my employment. Oddly it has magnified it. I have more hours at work then I know what to do with...

To summarize the Lucky site: the hosting has moved and in my spare time I have been teaching myself all sorts of wonderful things in regards to websites by experimenting on one of my own local computers. I set up apache, installed mysql, php and perl on it and have learned about proper shtml and cgi stuff. Things I had no idea about previously.

The database is intact, although I have been doing terrible things to the clones of the database.

One day, in the near future - I am hopeful that I can finish all my tinkerings and put all online.

The Luckyfrag.com server is usually empty at times because of the custom maps.

but don't you think that the default maps get a bit boring after a while, it's good to mix up defaults and customs, on another note, if custom maps are not promoted why would anybody bother making them... Long live RF and custom mappers.

I don't think that is true. I play in a custom server, redfaction.info and it usually fills up with good people (including at least 2 Canadians ). Most of us regulars don't use PF (with the auto-downloader)so we have to download the maps in the rotation. Stu_Pidaso does however changes his rotation, which is something that Luckyfrag.com hasn't done in a while. Which is why I don't really play there any more. Basically I (and I think it might be "we" ) get tired of playing the same levels over and over.
We have seen a surge in new players that we know are using PF with the auto-downloader.

Well I think it's the rotation of the maps in luckyfrag that has really kept me into the server. Because the rotation is similar to that of Dinner is Served and I've been a long time player of the dinner server so really the rotation in Lucky is just something that I'm more used to seeing. As for rfinfo, the rotation changes probably every other month or so? but what's different about rfinfo is that the people that play in the server are just more enjoyable to kill, I mean play with. And many of them are long time RF players.

As far as Lucky and Dinner goes, many many maps have been cycled in and out. The ones that remained were the ones that players complained about the least. So don't blame me blame yourselves.

Regardless, I have been working excessive hours for the past half year; really takes a bite out of my internet trolling and the ability to not only play but drop maps into a server and monitor player's reactions to them. As always, I have striven to deliver a quality product and if I don't have the time, I can't do it.

Anyhow, for anyone who is interested I put together a rudimentary image gallery as a gesture of my appreciation for all the folks who previously endorsed and participated in the Lucky-Dinner experience.

Props and many thanks!

On a side note: rfinfo does have more maps in multi folder, but they are really the same old maps with the exception of a couple new ones a year. The maps are really secondary to the experience aren't they: it is the participants who make the scene, not the scene itself.

I hear you Hapa. You've done a hell of job with both Lucky and Dinner and what not, and to me you are an inspiration. Good luck with your job btw!

Oh wow Hapa, nice gallery. I have not seen that pic I had from the Apox server... in a LONG CENSORED time.

As for Dinner is Served, simply an amazing server and great times in TeamSpeak during those frag sessions. Humor had to have been the best bit of it all.

The new LuckyFrag is amazing though; it was time to savior those memories from Dinner is Served, and thus LuckyFrag was born. LF is a great place to be...I join as often as I can, life just so happens to take priority. Verge of a heart attack at the age of 20, wth?! lol
