I've been having trouble hosting red faction. I have forwarded the correct port (7755) on my router, but I'm wondering if I need to fix something on my dsl modem. Are there options that I might need to configure for that? Any help would be appreciated.

Also may need to allow it through your firewall.

You may need to check your DSL modem settings. I had similar issues when i was on DSL and i had to configure my modem as well as the router.

It depends on which DSL modem you have. Awhile ago, I had a cheaper modem with no settings other than the connection information. Recently my ISP made us upgrade our modem (free of charge) and it came with all sorts of security features enabled to restrict Internet access. Seeing as how the important security settings were already applied to my router, I had to disable most of the features on the modem to reconfigure my network properly.
well, I spent no less than three hours on the phone back and forth between ATT DSL and Belkin tech support. I'm very confused now. Originally, ATT DSL took me into the modem settings and a very attractive sounding Indian woman had me change my PPP settings to "bridge mode." She sounded like she new what she was talking about. But I couldn't connect to the internet with my router anymore, only if I was directly connected to the modem. So Belkin totally confused me, but eventually they had me plug my modem into one of the computer ports on the router instead of the internet port. and now I'm connected to the internet through my router. weird. But I have no idea if I can host. I'm going to try the above program. My modem is reset to Dynamic mode instead of bridge mode after the second phone call to ATT. Overall, I thought ATT had better support, but that could be because of the sexy voice talking to me. Who knows...

Quite honestly, with the modem that my DSL provided, I could never get my server working. As soon as I switched back to cable, my problems disappeared.

Welcome! Post 4 / 5
well thanks everyone, I think i can successfully host now that I know how to get into the DSL modem settings. Jaimee's right, there's really no way that I can find to be able to host with the stupid router. A minor inconvenience, but oh well. Thanks for all the advice guys!
