Quoting Assaultman67 | I guess what i don't like about that is that the sum of its parts is like ... what ... $10 tops? ... but its price doesn't reflect that ...
there really is nothing to justify charging that much when the manufacturing process and materials are taken into account ...
all i want is headphones with a stronger wire ... |
Nah, the sum of cheap branded sets may be that. But definitely not Senn. lol, you sound so paranoid. |

actually thats a pretty high estimate for parts ...
do you have any idea how inexpensive it gets when you buy things in bulk or mass produce it yourself? Let alone how inexpensive and uncomplex speakers are
Speakers are nothing more than a magnet, a coiled copper wire, a metal basket, and a cone (made either out of plastic or paper) ...
You could get a motherboard or CPU for that ... that was crafted by an automated line in a dust free enviroment in which some of its circuitry is measured within nanometers and was engineered by probably some of the brightest people on earth ...
Headphones could be assembled by a bunch of kids and designed by some random electrical engineer and "whatever guy majors in audio" ...
so $100 for headphones sounds kinda expensive to me |

You haven't seen the enthusiast audio market then
Try $600 or higher for headphones, etc.
And damn it Assaultman, stop making things difficult, lol. |

(Just a note before i go ranting on ... i actually had to sit and think for a bit on whether or not i should respond ... this looks like it will devolve into an argument if i keep talking ... but on the other hand ... i think hes wrong ... the juvenile side got the best of me, sorry to those who care)

Damn. I hate when things cost money.
|
I do too, and if i think its too much money, i simply don't buy it ...
Quoting digital_ruler | Yeah, like half a graphics card or something. |
Or a damn good motherboard or CPU or like oodles of RAM (heh ... oodles ) ... and considering that i haven't bought new PC parts for 4 years, thats looking more appealing to me to spend $100 dollars on headphones ...
Quoting digital_ruler | Maybe you should start your own pro audio manufacturing firm. |
I don't claim to be an expert in audio, but im fairly sure that they could offset their development costs and maintain a cheaper price range if they just produced more volume ...
The only way this wouldn't make sense is if they were making the headphones out of a really extremely expensive material, and looking at the materials speakers are made out of (both big and small) they really shouldn't be that expensive ...
Quoting digital_ruler | Thank you, Mr. Engineer. Unfortunately for your argument, there's quite a bit more that goes into speaker design than the raw materials. |
Yup ... development ... but volume trumps the initial expenses ... unless of course you are using some really expensive material in development ... said it before ...
P.S. i actually am in the college of mechanical engineering ... weird

You must have no idea how transducers are made. This reminds me of the guy who claimed AMD processors were made in sweatshops in China. |
That big word "Transducer" you are talking about ... is litterally a magnet coupled with a wire wrapped around a tube ... not exactly the most complex thing in the world ...
Quoting digital_ruler | Thiele-Small parameters. Do you understand them?
In short, you're asking for good, durable headphones, then complaining when you have to pay any decent amount of money for them. This is hilariously sad. |
Never said i was an audio kinda guy ...
In short, i was asking for:
Quoting first paragraph of first post | Im looking for a decent pair of headphones that are somewhat inexpensive ... it doesn't have to be super awesome sound quality ... the main thing i want is it to have a long cord that doesn't break easily ... i keep burning through headphones because the wires break somewhere ... |
Yet everyone is suggesting (what i think are) expensive headphones and debating the sound quality of them ... and then arguing with me when i think thats too expensive for me to get
Edit: in retrospect, maybe I should of specified a price range |

asking for a pair of headphones that don't break easily under $50 seem like a huge request to me |

Take your pick:
Senheiser
Koss
Panasonic
He's asking for a low cost, functional pair of headphones, guys, not A+ audio quality. |
