I just bought a new board, CPU and am using a older video card I had laying around and now I am having major problems.
Here are the details. My old system was a Intel E4300 Duo Core processor with a Junk ESC board and ATI 9700 Pro AGP video card with 1 gig memory. Had no problems at all.
New system is a Intel E7300 Duo Core with new Junk ESC board and ATI X700 PCI-e video card and 2 gigs memory. The problem is when I try to play RF I seem to move nice and smooth but everyone else is really choppy. SO choppy I can hardly play the game.
The drivers I am using for my Video are the Omega ATI drivers because I don't want to instell the microsoft .Net Framework crap. Those where the same drivers I was using with my 9700 Pro so I don't think they are the problem.
Does anyone have an idea what this could be caused from. |

Here is a dumb question.
Did you set the compability to run under Windows98 / WindowsMe? |

Sounds like the dual core problem to me. Try using this to solve the problem. |

Theses steps with probably fix your issue
In Red Faction Launcher Setup - (redfaction.exe)
Uncheck - Enable Vsync (Eliminates tearing)
If not work, tune your video card, you can found various way to say it, as ATI, Wait for vertical refresh... Depending on your machine spec, Red Faction sometime need to be off to run smoothly. You can choose the option, On unless application decide if you want to preserve it for other game, with resent driver settings you can even set a profile setup only for RF, probably not needed. Every time you test a setup, I recommend to you run Fraps to check the fps, you are supposed to reach ~120. Go in a map, strafe and move slowly your mouse horizontal, you will notice when it will be nice & smooth
You probably also not need the "windows compatibility mode", is better fix the problem from the source, instead to run it with emulation.

I think suggesting turning off VSync to fix the dual-core bug qualifies as "stupid" |

Assman15 thought that is maybe a Dual Core bug, my suggestion fix is for Turbo_Man, nothing about Dual Core...

Just because he didn't run into any problems with his last dual core CPU doesn't mean that he can't run into problems with his new one. If that were the case, then the documented dual core bug would really exist, now would it? |

Is... maybe a Dual Core bug, I just post reply as I say, a suggestion fix, that I know it can turn a choppy laggy RF to a fluid gameplay experience.
No need to close another topic lol...

I had a similar problem with UT2004 3 days ago, I was only getting 135 fps and it was really jerky. It took me a while but i figured out it was the mouse smoothing option that was enabled. Turned if off and "hey presto" 600 to 1400 FPS again. Its amazing how stupid little thing like that cause such big performance loss |

Before this post I thought you were talking about Unreal Tournament 3, and thought you were just making fun of someone. Now that I see it's UT2004, I can totally believe your post. |
