It was a Pure Faction server actually, (Just without the required authorization) and Volition was running a new beta of Pure Faction 4.

Well, if it wasn't for a special version of Pure made specially for the Volition people, they wouldn't have been able to play at all so that worked well.

Why is that?
Me, I hail from Thunder Bay, Ontario. I'm under-played in stereos.

me, redfrog, sobe, X-Tream, and cyrus were having fun just screwing around in a MW server crashing jeeps into a pit, running each other over, and ramming each other ... there really was organization whatsoever (and little gameplay ... we were testing a run map)... we just did whatever we decided to do at the moment ... an organized match with arranged teams wouldn't of been as fun

yea it was awesome.
I really had a great laugh non-stop.
It was like those homevideos, one fail followed by another one.

What really is dissapointing is that the Volition game had stock maps.

It should have been a game with custom maps to show them how much heart the people put into the game they have created.

64 player server crack, extra geomod, play large custom maps, and let everyone join ...

I can pick out 3 things in that statement which would make the server crash

We had organized matches because Volition wanted them. Next time we will have public games along with some organized matches most likely.

Ok well maybe the server would crash if you added all those things ... but if you got a really fast connection and box ... id be stupid enough to give it a try

Why is that?

Because no one over at Volition even has RF anymore ...

... as for servers that need structure ... that like making kids wait in line to ride a swing ... they won't stay they will just leave and go do something else ... or its like adding rules to a knife fight ... or adding rules to a Gmod server saying that you can only build stuff out of crates ... or putting a "no-shooting" shop in a server ... there will always be people shooting in the shop if its possible!

In public servers you always have 3 people tunneling and 5-6 playing because that what they find fun ... not everyones idea of fun is organized matches against each other

This is only the first game in a series that we at NebulaMods.com are organizing with Volition. The next one will have custom maps as far as I know.
Oh and by the way, you can't compare a tournament vs. the developers to testing a map with friends

Assaultman, the server would crash the second you got player # 33 to join, limits are there for a reason.

Can't you people read?

Yes, i read that volition chose to do a team thing ... i just chose to ignore you ... keep in mind that volition is also the people who came up with RF2 so their decision making skills at times are somewhat questionable

The point of this is to pit Volition vs. the community.... I think you need some structure, otherwise the match won't end up being fun.

Exactly. Without the team aspect, it's less Volition vs. Community and more "lets throw some developers into a pub with random players and see what happens"

I kinda like that idea better ... LOL ...

How'd they play then, genius?

I was suggesting a stand-alone version of pure ... WHY CAN'T YOU READ! LOL!

You need to remember just who made those stock maps. Volition made the game and the stock maps, and it's a bit rude if the community vs. Volition game doesn't even include the developers' mapping work.

blah blah...

You really don't know what makes a developer of a game make more proud.
It's not being proud of your own work, it's being proud of a community that has accepted your work, spends their lifetime with it to make it better.
THAT is the important thing.

Another reason is, it would have been a good idea to actually show them how important it is to allow people edit/work with their game

For the 5th time in the past day, the next game which is being planned ([Link]) will most likely include custom maps.

You don't really know what makes a developer proud now do you REDFROG? You've never been on a game development team. We didn't have enough time to plan this one and get everyone to download the maps. The next one will be more spread out, allowing for that. Stop complaining about this one and just get excited about the next one.

I wonder if Volition has access to UT2004. It'd be interesting to see a match of Mars Wars against Volition...
Those who follow the path of others lack the imagination or courage to create their own.

Anyone interested in playing in the next Volition vs. Community tournament/game/whatever you want to call it can post in this thread: [Link]

Anyone with map suggestions can also post in that thread, or PM me on NebulaMods.com.

You've never been on a game development team.

don't worry I didn't have to be in a development team to have similar experiences.

It's fine that you'll be doing another game.
Why do you pick my comments up so insanely terrible. I was just stating that it would have "been better if". That's a typical opinion comment which many people do.

And if it was ok to play stock maps then you would not have to tell me thousand times that there will be a custom map game that fixes it all.

Digi, goober already mentioned that there was sheer no time to pull up a custom maps game. So its not like it was played on stock maps completely on purpose.
What he said a few days ago was like
"It would have been better, but there was no time"
which is ok but I still wanted to mention it

so yea no need to be so nasty again.

I didn't say that would fix it all, it would just be a fun interesting experience.

Defaults will obviously also be played.

There's no point in arguing about this. Volition said they wanted some structure, and the whole thing was organized through the NebulaMods site so THOSE 2 groups of people are the ones that get to decide the rules of the match, etc.

If you don't like it, there's nothing stopping you from trying to get your own match going with some of the people from Volition.
