Remove some vpps from your multi/single and/or mods folder.

No.

Just do what I do, rename your multi folder to multi2 and then move only the maps you play often to your new multi folder.

Remove the contents of your single, multi and mods folder. Move them somewhere else, then try the game. If it works, move them into your folder, but only what you often use.

If you ave any mod file installed that you aren't using. Move or delete them.
All files located in your single multi and mod folders count towards the limit you can have while still being able to start the game. I know I am safe having less than 1.5 Gigs or less. Then again there are others that claim that they can have more than 2.0 Gigs on their folders (total). I use the word claim only because I don't have access to their computer. "Them" showing me a screen shot of what they have still doesn't convince me at all.
I can go slightly over 1.5 Gigs but I just that as a base to be sure I know I won't get that error.

I believe it is a limit on the number of VPPs/files inside VPPs, as opposed to a limit on the overall size.

Nope, in this case, over all size does matter.

It may count when it comes to load times, but (as long as it's not unreasonably high), I believe the overall filesize is irrelevent.

Kingpin if you have tried what they have said and you still get that problem then remove all files from the multi and single folders and see if the game will work then. If so then you may have a currupt VPP file, start adding the maps back a few at a time until you get the problem back then norrow down what vpp file is bad. I had RF just start doing that to me one day and after a few hours of messing with it found a vpp file that was screwed and after removing that ONE file everything was back to normal.

I currently have 2.11 gigs worth of vpp files in my multi folder and have no problems at all unless I try to run Pure Faction then I get a Packfile problem.

Edit: 1 6 gigs of the maps are contained in one big VPP file.

the limit varies from PC to PC. I know this as me and my friend both installed the same maps and his computer bugged out with the packfile problem but mine was quiet happy (I also had a few of my maps in the Single folder). Putting them all in 1 VPP does seem to help as your cutting down the VPP number but at the same time there is also still a limit on Filesize.

At the minute I have:
Mods: 548MB, 157 Files
Multi: 902MB, 90 Files
Single: 251MB, 165 Files (50% are RFLs)
Multi2: 221MB, 39 Files*
Working: 351MB, 63 Files*

* - These bottom 2 are not related to the limit, they are for me to move VPPs around. the Working folder is where im amalgamating several VPPs into 1.

So the ones RF reads, total (aprox):
548MB + 902MB + (251/2) = 1575MB (I did delete some Mods before formatting though.)
157 + 90 + (165/2) = 329 Files
Trying to find old players. Anyone about? Drop me a PM or reply to this thread:

That is because PF B3 loads one more vpp than RF does. As far as I know, this vpp will not be needed in the next PF.
