A brief summary of my tale of woe:

Bought a new computer: quad core, dual 8800GT vid cards, 4 gigs ram (yay).
Decided to install RF.

Much grief ensued - mainly due to the fact that I have 64 bit Vista and it doesn't play well with others.

Currently, I can get RF to load but I'm experiencing the 8800 vid card problem (hall of mirrors effect).
I managed (after much drama) to download PURE FACTION which among other things was designed to fix the 8800 vid card problem.

However, now when I try and start RF, it gives me a binkw32.dll missing error message. That file is in fact NOT missing.

When I googled to see what that error was about it said that it was most often a compatibility issue that came from running a cracked version of a game (Pure Faction).

I did another fresh install and have the same issue whenever I run Pure Faction. I've tried compatibility modes

So, right now I can run RF but it's unplayable because the visuals are so screwed up. I can't run Pure Faction because of this binkw32.dll error.

Any advice on how to resolve the binkw32.dll issue or to otherwise run RF in a manner that resolves the 8800 vid card problem with RF?

Bioshock looks great on this computer but I miss my RF friends.

Give me an email or msn address and I will send you a fresh bink32 file. My friends have had this problem before, and a fresh bink32 almost always fixes the issue.

My money is the 4gigs causing the problm. Vista seems to crap out. I Believe the solution entails:

Install Vista (with oly 2gb of ram installed)
Update Vista...
Reinstall additional 2gb of ram.

However not sure if the binkw32.dll error is due to this...I know that the ram bug causes problems though.
Trying to find old players. Anyone about? Drop me a PM or reply to this thread:

Doesn't RF bork with 4Gb of RAM? I think thats the limit of a 32bit program and once you reach that amount it has issues... 64Bit has no issue with a mere 4Gb of course.

It was something like that anyway...

OK. Thanks for all the help. Here's what happened. Somehow, the pure desktop item got disassociated from the pure.exe file i nside the redfaction folder. I'd installed it correctly but had done something goofy like copying the desktop item instead of associating the shortcut with the exec file. Once I figured this out, it was easy to fix and all runs well. As a bonus, I don't even have to start RF with some of the ram disabled....it appears to run just fine with my 4 gigs.

Thanks again to everyone for their assistance.
