I recently had an interesting discussion with Ninja about video game prices and it got me thinking, what prices do you pay to keep your hobby fresh? So far, the cost of games in the US seems to be lower than average. I priced out some things below. These are prices for new merchandise, not used.

Wii Console - $250 USD (~$158 EUR, ~$272 AUD)
XBox 360 Console (Deluxe, 20GB ) - $350 USD ( ~$222 EUR, ~$380 AUD)

New Wii Release Title - $50 USD (~$32 EUR, ~$54 AUD)
New XBox 360 Title - $60 USD (~$38 EUR, ~$65 AUD)

I want to hear your guys' opinions and prices for games in your area of the world.

Note: PC games were excluded due to their huge variety in pricing. Also, all currency conversions were made using XE.com on 3-27-2008.

Seems like I got ripped off massively if your pricing is correct.

That was my thought too when Ninja had told me what he'd been paying for newer games. My best guess is that it has something to do with import costs.

Well over here, the cost of a new Xbox 360 game costs around £40-45.
wii games are around the £30-40 Mark...

Xbox360 Console (Premium): £189.99 ($378.91)
Xbox360 Console (Elite): £249.99 ($498.57)
Wii Console: £179.99 ($358.97)
PS3 40GB: £299.99 ($598.30)

Xbox 360 Game: £40-45 ($79.77 - $89.75)
Wii Game: £30-40 ($59.84 - $79.77)
PS3 Game: £45-50 ($89.74 - $99.74)

What a bloody rip! you americans get all the best prices. Its why imports are so huge at the moment. I would be worried about importing games though incase they didnt work quite right on my PAL console. At least the Xbox360 prices are almost even.
Trying to find old players. Anyone about? Drop me a PM or reply to this thread:

ffs, I'm browsing the Wii console at Target, WalMart, PriceGrabber.com,and they are all $300+.....They used to be $150 for the console. I bought my little sister one for her birthday early December of 2007.

Inflation of prices is ridiculous.

Eh... Please don't even joke about getting an AlienWare, lol.

Check out http://www.falcon-nw.com before you waste any amount of money on an AlienWare build. You will get better customer service, return policy, etc. And if you recieve anything, such as an LCD monitor from Falcon NorthWest with even 1 dead pixel, they will replace with next day delivery, no charge for you.

Pfft... Don't even joke about getting a Falcon, lol.

Alienware's are usually cheaper then Falcon's, if you configure the exact same comp on both, and have much cooler cases. Falcon cases are just boring square cases with a picture painted onto them. (they want $1300+ for a square case with a window on the side and some blue flames painted onto it... )

Although even cheaper then alienware and falcon for the exact same comp is when you order all the parts off a computer parts site and build it yourself which I think I'm going to do for my next pc. (I configured pretty much same PC on Falcon, Alienware, and ncix.com and came up with Falcon - $4423 (and thats with their cheapest case, which is just a grey box with their logo on the front), Alienware - $3868, NCIX.com - $2785 (ncix is just a canadian computer parts site so the price would probably be similar on newegg.com or any other computer parts site) All these prices are before taxes and shipping and stuff.

Holy... I just peeked at the Nvidia site and looked at the 9800 GX2... This thing makes my 8600GTS look like a ford escort compared to a ferarri. lol

Well, I know what my new PC is gonna have in it.

no, the 9800 with its 2 GPU cores has a disappointing performance against the single core 8800 cards.
It's pricing is absolutely not compareable with it's performance, and compared to 8800 cards.
I have seen benchmarks (not from nvidia itself of course.. ), where they get a boost of 30fps (vs. 8800 GTS) in Crysis at maximum detail and high resolutions, plus someAA and AF enabled.
The 9800 one can only score with that AA and AF since two cores can do that job much more efficiently, and most games actually cannot take advantage of two gpus at all.

I don't know which card you have, but mine is a huge flagship. And I could yet not find a game which my 8800 can't handle on everything high @ 1680...even with AA and AF.

Oh well, buy it, if you can
But also make sure your PSU can power it.
It'll require 8 pole connectors and lots of power.
Nvidia is working on mainboards with small onboard gpus, specially made for desktop use so the 9800's doesn't produce too much heat and eat all the power for nothing. When performance needed it will switch to the gpus of the 9800.

For the moment the 8800 is the absolute uber-god of the graphics cards for good money

The nVidia GeForce 7950GX2 dual gpu was one of nVidia's worst cards ever placed on the market, I don't expect this new dual gpu card to perform much better at all. Just think of 2 7800GTs/7900GTs duct-taped together, there is your dual gpu solution by nVidia. Same exact thing with the 9800GX2.

the 9800gx2 is just 2 512mb 8800GTS's SLI'd together on 1 card. early benchmarks of the 9800GTX show it to be almost equal to or better then the 9800gx2 except at the really high resolutions. Last I read it's supposed to be out april 1st and retail for about $349 which is $250 less then the 9800GX2 for pretty much the same performance. The only real advantage to the 9800GX2 is you could buy 2 of them and have QUAD SLI since you would have 4 GPU's and on the 9800GTX you would only be able to go to TRI SLI.
