Hey You Guys, I started a thread here yesterday..It slike 2 threads above this one.. anyway here is my problem...
Bare with me..
I am loosing a considerable amount of framerate in ALL of my games i play.. RF , RF2, ut2004, MW, SOF2.. it doesn't matter which game i play i always loose framerate.
Here's the ticker of it. When i join any of the games i play.. Lets say RF for example.. I t will play fine for about 2 min and then i will drop about 25 frames for like 5 seconds and then it will go back to normal for like another 2min and then loose 25 more frames for about 5 seconds, and it just keeps cycling like that. My first thought was my Video card ( original was Geforce 6800 (256DDR).. so i decided to replace it with a new Geforce 8600 GTS ( 512MB DDR) Both cards are PCI-E. I also dropped 1 more gig of ram in my system. Now i have 2 gigs of pc3200 Ram.
Some people from work tell me that my Motherboard is shot (or is on its last leg), and some say it might be my processor. Any help would be Greatly Appreciated.

I haven't seen the framerate drop myself...it could be everything.
When game scenes become complex the framerate will surely drop.
Heat might be the problem.
Perhaps when your CPU or GPU becoms too hot, it reduces it's performance - and thus will cause a lower framerate for the time it's cooling down again.
If your CPU already has that "Cool and Quiet" feature, you should try to turn it OFF, and see what happens. You can turn Cool and Quiet off in BIOS, and you should always take a look at your Power Management, located in System Controls. If the power management is set to "Minimal", try setting it to Desktop, so the PC will not be trying to lower the clock of the CPU.
Also, try it by running your system with the PC case opened, and try to cool it down.
Don't overclock your PC while you are testing.
Set the clockspeed of the RAM to its default values, your RAM may get too hot, or already broke which causes a lot of correction time - slow framerate.
If it's not a temperature problem, it might be a broken mainboard (look for the capacitors, do they look like this they are broken/blown out), false drivers or broken/overclocked RAM.
ps
in the games you have listed, you said MW...Mars Wars? |

Now, now. I just happen to agree with digital_ruler about people not exposing their IPs to something wanting to take hack them through the Internet. |

You can find IPs of people on many places..
IPs of RF servers.
IPs of Players in PureFaction.
those are just 2, related to RF
But I doubt there is much use of just having an IP of somebody..(I'm not talking about ports) otherwise all our PCs would have stopped running already. |

AVG Sucks
Get KaperSky or Avast or something.
And if you got some money get NOD32 |

AVG is possibly the best free antivirus currently available. Avast!.... Don't bother, they miss too many updates. Most colleges seem to suggest AVG as the free AntiVirus and Nod32 as the paid for antivirus, lol. Most, if not all colleges/universities around may provide a free legal copy of Nod32 with your student ID(I didn't know this :O).
If you want to pay for an A/V, KasperSky or Nod32 will be your best choices. Nod32 being the lead choice of course, and honestly no difference in price from that of McAfee or Norton AntiVirus that you'd pay in stores. |

I bet there is some auto-update or similar activated, spyware is also possible. I have nearly same system except an ATI 1900. Temporary framedrops are caused by e.g. Virusscanner, Spyware, Update Checks. Im using WinPatrol this programm causes frame drops each 2 min when it checks my registery for new entries.
Also u may check ur whole system for spyware, Spybot Search & Destroy is very handy, download here http://www.spybot.info/
And if nothing helps HiJackThis http://www.hijackthis.de/en |

Auctually I found out what it was...
I never thought about it.. But i have DSL and it started to affect me some time ago, ( about loosing Framerate).. and it turned out that it was my Internet Connection. Tell you how i know.. I took it to techxperts ( a local computer tech place) and they let me hook mine up to their cable modem.. and i played for 30 min with 0 framerate loss.. I even used fraps.. with no loss. I then bought it home.. and as soon as i started Playing.. it all started all over again.. i started loosing ( Internet connection Packets) i guess is what its called. Thats why is was so consistent and always at the same time.
WEll the short of it was, is that i called SBC and asked them to run a check on my line from the tech's side of it and they said that there were errors on the line , But no really bad one's, However, they did say that the errors keep coming up and fluttering the line.. so they are sending out a tech tomorrow to look at it after i get home. I also installed a chasis fan.. didnt make a difference at all.
So wish me luck! |

agree.
You have to check the temperatures while playing to find out if temp has any relation to the problem. Download a program like "SpeedFan" which will frequently view the temps, clock- and fanspeeds.
The most obvious way to find out if it has relation to the internet connection is to run the PC without it for a few hours.. (a PC can also run without internet )
Another problem might be a wrong configured network card. Something that overruns a buffer with time. |
