I ran it on my Radeon x1550 just fine... a little on the low side, but fully functional none the less.

For those who don't know, the Radeon 9600 and Radeon 9800 are pre-Radeon X line, which was pre-Radeon X1K line; so, roughly 2-3 generations old.

Yeah. got UT3 Working now. have to run it in 800x600 and at detail level 1/2 I can run it at 3 but it just lags like crazy.

Think its time for an Upgrade. What cards would you guys recommend? I kinda would like to stick with ATI, and I dont want an expensive card. Say in the range of £50-£100. I know thats a tight budget but its my 1 luxury item a month.

The Radeon x1950 series currently has the best DX9 cards on the market and are reasonably priced (ranging from $100~$200 USD). There's a new dual-core ATi line-up that was just released, but those start at a whopping $450 USD. Unless you're really in the need of a DX10 card I highly suggest going with the Radeon x1950XT/XTX/Pro.

Not be... Personally I cannot stand nVidia cards

Personally that is all I have ever known. At the same time I will not dis other cards, they all have their faults and accomplishments.

Certain games run better on the cards that they were design for.
Half Life 2 was design for ATI right but I still bought a nVidia.

Watch it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your 9800 Pro is most likely the old AGP card. Good luck finding a replacement with the new generation of cards Video cards in the last 4 years (since your 9800 came out ) are all PCI-e now. There are still some upgrade AGP cards available on the market if you look around. I would recommend a new comp though (I could be wrong too, I have no idea if ATI made 9800 Pro PCI-e cards)

UT has always worked with Nvidia...UT3 is definitely tweaked to run better on Nvidia. The big hint here is when you launch UT there is an Nvidia commercial, LOL

Good luck there, the current best value for money cards are Nvidia and even then they are PCI-E. Would be a waste of money buying an AGP card now IMO as it sounds like you wish to play games like UT3.

My suggestion would be to save up and do a full upgrade.
P.S. Still Alive.

Only REALLY want to play UT3. No new PC games coming out that im interested in at all.

Mainly play on my 360, hence the interest in an upgrade instead of a new PC...
I made (yet another topic) on a new PC, and reccommendations >>HERE<<
