Ok, I want to remove McAffee, however I have heard this is tougher than the simple "uninstall" job.

I have already disabled most of the McAffee services on my PC via the adminstration tools.

how should I go about doing this?

Disable all McAffee services, close program, Uninstall?
Close program, Disable services, uninstall?
Close Program, uninstall?

Trying to find old players. Anyone about? Drop me a PM or reply to this thread:

I'd say close the program before stopping services. Often, having a program running will require its services to stay active, or in this case, start them up again. Anyways, close program, stop services, uninstall. You shouldn't have any problems.

Did you have any luck Beat?

If not, exorcisms aren't my speciality, but I could pray for your computer.

Alternatively, there are a number of problems involved that are just bugs. It also leaves quite a lot of stuff in your registry. Is that what you're worried about?

Umm here... I think this might have what you want but it's a major pain.

That might be a bit outdated but maybe it's still relevant to the latest files and registry entries.

Arrrgg!! I hate programs that bury themselves in your machine like this.

It's not a fun

Beatonator, I know I had a hell of a time to get rid of McAfee. I had to close most of the running applications. Which was a pain, since IF I closed the wrong one, my PC would not run the uninstall program or stop working all together, which mean I had to do a force-reboot.
I like McAfee but it's just eats up too much resources when it wants to and when I am playing video games online.

Infernus LOL I thought the same thing. I was wondering why Beatonator wanted to get rid of Jayson "The Beast" Dehn and why he had posted it on non-staff forums.

Welcome back Kiliad!

AVG is the best free anti-virus you'll be able to find, though it has a tendency to stop functioning if not updated regularly. As for your current troubles, try running a registry cleaner after the uninstall.

Infernus BTW that Anti-Virus deleted my MYTH program. It's a good thing I had it backed up on another drive.
Not that I use it, I just like to keep most stuff that was made for Red Faction. You know to show it off to the kids when I am an older man.

try running a registry cleaner after the uninstall.

Or removing anything that is McAfee related on your registry.

I was looking around the net and was shocked to find AVG was listen below McAffee.

Nod was ranked 3rd overall by a couple of sites. Its not that im unhappy with McAffee I just know its a system hogger though.
