Hey guys, heres the situation:

2 PCs:
1 XP / 1 Vista

1 Laptop
1 Xbox 360

I want to limit internet connectivity for the Vista computer so that it doesn't use over its allotment and possibly the XP one as well. Any help?
Trying to find old players. Anyone about? Drop me a PM or reply to this thread:

Why do you need one. When i hit my download limit it just slows the speed down. Still fast enough to download at 200kbs and use xbox live so its not a problem.

Ill ask rhf on msn when i see him.

How about just removeing the network cable when you not using ? or disconnecting the local area connection.

the Vista PC is using Wireless, and its my flat mates PC. I dont want him hogging the whole Broadband connection, so wanted to alter DL rates and such.

A proper managed switch outta do that. Probably set you back a small fortune and it'll be cheaper just to pull his network cable out the switch randomly if you notice a lot of traffic going over his connection

Hmmm. I was hoping my Router had software to deal with it, however It only limits time periods.

Will give that NetLimiter 2 Program RedFrog linked to a try. Dont want to shell out for a friggin Switch

Why buy hardware when you can have it software side..
There should be enough of those programs.
I've got one that came with the provider software.

Simple... a switch the other guy cant have any say in the matter. He doesn't even need to know there's even a policy on his connection.

With a piece of software on his PC he can just turn it off if he hits his limit...

All depends on why the limit is needed and how strictly it needs to be enforced. Software for casual, hardware when it must work 100% of the time no questions asked.

You can do it at the router level possibly also, packet/service prioritorisation. Try and look into your router web interface.

What I routinely do in my situation if people are hammering the connection, I knock them off of the network from the router.

You could setup mac filtering on the wireless side of the router, and when he starts to smack the bandwidth hard, just change his stored mac by one octet or something, then give no explanation as to why it's not working for him, and simply blame vista. 2 hours later, change the mac back to the original.
